Why then do these new GM constructs deserve the gift of reduced insurance cost at the US taxpayers’ expense? Have the taxpayers been consulted before such egregious largesse has been doled out to well-heeled farmers and the corporations who licence the GM seeds?
Monsanto had already declared war on Saskatchewan farmers immediately after their judgment against Percy Schmeiser, but it appears their approach now is to the extreme.
Schmeiser has received hundreds of phone calls from farmers who are facing similar circumstances.
Around 300 women rural residents in Brazil burst into a property owned by the US company Monsanto and destroyed a plant nursery and crops containing genetically modified corn, their organization said.
The women were protesting what they saw as environmental damage by the crops.
Some compare Monsanto’s hard-line approach to Microsoft’s zealous efforts to protect its software from pirates. At least with Microsoft the buyer of a program can use it over and over again. But farmers who buy Monsanto’s seeds can’t even do that.
Codex Alimentarius is an attempt to overturn existing US laws in favor of pharma-friendly international trade rules. Codex is a threat to human health, human rights, democracy and national sovereignty.
