Special Note to all those interested in downloading and viewing my creations below:

     As of May 1999, I've decided to render all of my animations using the Intel codec (a compression utility) called Indeo 5.1.  This version of Indeo gives the best in quality verses compression trade offs which allows me to distribute much higher resolution animations!

        To view my animations on a Windows based system, this codec must be installed on your system.  Failure to do so will result in audio playback only and/or system lock up when playing back my animations.  Since this codec is a free upgrade to any Windows 95/98 system from Intel, there's really no reason for you not to upgrade.  Besides being able to view my animations, certain other applications (IE5 and Netscape, among others) will utilize these codecs and run better!  Fellow animators will also have this codec to compress their own animations!  To upgrade, simply go to the Intel site below and download the Indeo 5.1 setup program.  Once it's downloaded, run the program and choose whichever option you're comfortable with... I chose "Custom" to load only the 5.1 codec, but this package includes all of the previous codecs if you need to install them, too.  The installation is simplicity defined... you can confirm the existence of Indeo 5.1 (in Win98) after installing by going to your Control Panel, double clicking the Multimedia icon, and clicking on the Devices tab- then choose the Video Compression Codecs icon- you should see Indeo 5.1 listed there if the installation was successful.

        For those using Mac systems, my animations are compatible with the new Quicktime 4.0 (which is Indeo 5.1 compliant).  Any other system types, you're on your own!

• My animations are AVI files rendered using the Indeo 5.1 codec.  These animations may be distributed, as long as they aren't changed in any way. The author requests that you contact him if they are to be used in any commercial venture. The files are in zip or executable zip format.  Windows users can use whatever multimedia viewer is currently installed on your system to view the files once they're unzipped.  Mac users should use Quicktime 4 to view them as the older quicktimes aren't compatible with Indeo 5.1.

ANIM #1:UFO Lake 99  (694 kb zipfile- takes about 4 mins to download at 28.8k)

• NEW for May 1999!!!  Re-rendered using the new Intel Indeo codec, 5.1!     Higher quality, higher rez, and MUCH smaller file size!  In this one, a whole new lake (the aliens love water, don't they?) scene and a UFO looking for a place to settle down.  Note the reflections on the water (hard to do!!!) as the UFO spins low over the lake.  I know, I'll call this one "Reflections in the Water"!!!  Oh, wait... that's already been done.  Enjoy!

ANIM #2: Mars Color Topographic Globe! (7.6 Mb zip; takes about 1.5 mins to dl w/cable modem; 1 hour 56k modem)

• New animation depicting data from the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) rendered onto a globe that shows you the entire planet in one spin! This data shows a false color (Mars doesn't look like this in color- it's red!) topographic map- the colors indicate the height of a given area. Dark blue areas are lowest- followed by lighter blues, greens, yellows, oranges, reds and finally pinkish-white showing the highest elevations. Note the blue of Mars' gigantic canyon (near the equator) Valles Marinaris as contrasted to the high Tharsus ridge directly to the west with it's three huge volcanos. Just west of these is the largest volcano known in the Solar System, Olympus Mons- it's the size of the state of Arizona! This animation uses up to the minute data directly from the MGS.

ANIM #3:UFO SID1 (3.5 Mb zipfile- takes about 30 mins to download at 56k, 30 secs at cable modem)

• In this one, SHADO has decided to deploy a second SID in a higher geostationary orbit but the aliens aren't going to stand for this.  An Interceptor damaged UFO decides to take care of business!  Sorry about the large file size; I wanted to maintain quality and still get the best compression I could.

ANIM #4:UFO 2001 (800 Kb zipfile- takes about 10 (?) mins to download at 56k, 10 secs at cable modem speeds)

• In this new animation (in a long time! been busy elsewhere!), three UFOs are seen careening towards a crescent Moon (the image of which was taken through my telescope in May 2001!!!). Since this is a real image of the Moon, this is what the real event would look like! Let me know what you think!
