Experience

Since 1985 Dr. Mentone has consulted on plating, etching, and electroforming projects for the electronics and medical industries. Typical Projects have included:

Setting up an automatic line to gold plate stainless steel parts.

Electroforming copper and nickel mesh.

Electroforming heaters for aircraft windows.

Increasing lead frame plating yields by improving solution control and standardizing plating tooling.

Developing process to remove silver flash and to improve the adherence of mold compound to the lead frame surface.

Electropolishing and anodizing of medical devices

Specifying and installing a selective gold plating line for color print heads.

Designing a solder plating line to plate chip inductors.

Improving process to manufacture diamond filled nickel dicing blades.

Through Dynatronix, MCTC consulted on many projects such as repairing steam tubes in nuclear reactors, plating   radioactive isotopes onto iron beads, molten salt bath plating, plating of aluminum metal, read/write heads for disk drives, and many other more traditional gold, silver and solder plating projects.

Between 1969 and 1984 Dr. Mentone was employed by BMC Industries (also known as Buckbee-Mears).  He had various managerial and supervisory positions.  He represented BMC on the Technical Advisory Board of the Microelectronic and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC) and was in charge of the St. Paul etching and electroforming division.

As the only expatriate, he started and managed BMC Singapore, which was a new facility to do stamping and plating of lead frames.   Earlier he was Operations Manager for both the Electroforming division and the Plating division.   He supervised 5 engineers working on new product development and obtained 5 patents including the primary patent for spot plating tooling.

Dr Mentone is an adjunct professor at the University of St. Thomas.
