Class of 57 pictures and sketches

Deana Kirk Whitmer: I misplaced my reunion letter so am just now reporting in. Can't come to the reunion but be sure to tell everyone hello for me and I'd like to hear from Folks. We are still living in Cortez, Colorado at 21730 County Road C, still trying to ranch/farm and keep our heads above water. My Husband, Milford Whitmer is presently driving a truck for a concrete company here and I take care of the farm and cattle altho right now is sort of slow in that the cattle are in the mountains and we only get to go see them on weekends. We have one child, a Daughter, who is married and lives in Wellington, Utah. We have one grandchild/son and he is the joy of our lives. He loves to have Dranny tell him stories! we have another grandchild on the way due in Feb. if all goes well. We lost our Dad in 1992, Nas Kirk and Mom passed away in 1985 both here in Cortez. My Sister Carol and family all live here so we see one another often and enjoy each others company. We had both planned to come this year but it just isn't going to be possible again. Tell everyone that I still ride a paint mare and hope to keep riding tell the day they lay me out! Course, it gets harder and harder to get on etc. but if you have a gentle horse who will get up to things so you can get on it makes it much easier. For those of you who don't know Cowboying, we had to learn to do it all over again when we started cowboying here in the mountains! lots of brush and downed timber etc. to get thru. Guess we won't have to worry about the brush and trees on Mesa Verde since it is on fire and likely will mostly burn up before its all over with. Well have a great reunion! I don't have a picture but will be looking forward to seeing the pictures of the reunion. I love you all, Deana Kirk Whitmer

Clarence and Jenice Fuqua Fuqua family Clarence Fuqua: The past 44 years have been filled with many new places, new friends, wonderful opportunities and some heart breaks. After leaving T or C in the summer of 1956, I moved to Las Cruces, graduated from High School, then made the questionable choice of moving to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico to study Engineering at a school that thought Engineers were from another planet. To say it was a bad experience is an understatement, but good things sometimes come from bad choices. I met Jenice Cloud; we fell in love and were married in 1959. We have been married for 42 years, have three daughters, one son, four grandsons, and four granddaughters. In 1960 we moved to Southern California where I went to work for Security Pacific National Bank and continued college on a part time basis, culminating with graduation from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After 21 years, 11 different jobs in 9 different cities and 5 moves I got a job offer from Anchorage, Alaska that was to appealing to turn down. Thus started the wildest years of our lives both financially and emotionally. When we arrived in Anchorage in 1981, the State was in the biggest boom since the gold rush. Everything was good, everybody was making money, and there seemed to be no end to the boom as long as the black stuff (oil) continued to flow down the pipeline. The State overspent and overbuilt, then at the end of 1984 oil prices crashed to $8.00 a barrel. The State went into depression, banks failed, and businesses closed. From 1984 to 1991 I worked for 5 banks (all but one failed) and one brokerage/insurance company, lost three apartment buildings, an art business, and our home, but God was good, we had good health, a good family, a good church, good friends, and a good work ethic. We survived without bankruptcy and with good health. In 1991 I became CFO for a small oil field service company and in 1994 moved with the company to Houston, Texas. In 1997 we got the Opportunity to move back to the Southern California coast to care for mother-in-law and enjoy the great Southern California weather. We jumped at it. After trying banking for three more years, I got the opportunity to be the Executive Director of the Cerritos (CA) Chamber of Commerce (the best job I have ever had). Now I am looking forward to retirement in three years with lots of golf. We have had a rich life with travel to Japan, China, Hong Kong, Colombia, England, Hawaii, Mexico, many places in the United States, and the Caribbean. We have many wonderful friends in the many cities we have lived in, and have even been fortunate enough to attended four class reunions in T or C to renew acquaintances with classmates. God continues to be very good to us.

Joanne Parker Poore Morrissey: In 1956 I married Don Poore (now deceased). Went to France in 1958, had a son, came back to TorC in 1960 and divorced. Went to work at Hot Springs Natl Bank in 1960 then to Carrie Tingley Hospital in 1966. Moved to Dallas in 1969 and went to work at a small hospital. In 1976 I went to work at Methodist Hospitals of Dallas (a two hospital system). Met my husband Mike there and we married in 1978 and finished raising my son and his three sons. Lots of groceries disappearing at this point. I am the Director of Finance at Charlton Methodist Hospital on the south edge of Dallas. We live in DeSoto a suburb south of Dallas so work is close. Great advantage in a city the size of Dallas. Mike only works 3 days a week but I still put in about 55 hrs. In October of 1998 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, had a mastectomy & chemo. Some fun. I look really funny bald. But, so far so good. All the boys live in the area and we have 2 grandsons. No girls around except a great daughter-in-law. My brother, Richard Parker (class of '54) lives in Garland-another suburb of Dallas to the east. Other classmates in the area are: JoAnn Henning (class of '57) Azle, Tx (NW of Fort Worth). Frances Riddle (class of '57) in Arlington, Tx and John Aragon (class of '54) in Dallas. Will probably retire in 2-3 yrs. We have no idea what we want to do so just keep working.
