Rita Yvonne (Stone) Nieman Hello to all my 1967classmates , This is Rita Stone Nieman. After twenty-three years of moving around the world with Uncle Sam, my family and I seem to have settled down for a while in Kent, Ohio. Yes, you are right, that is the University with the famous Kent State shootings during the Vietnam era. We have learned to love the small town and the University, where my husband is working. We have three wonderful boys. Chris, 26, is in his fourth year of Medical School at Ohio State University. Travis, 24, had studied at the College of Wooster and landed a great job with Coca Cola in Boston. Erik, 20, is a sophomore at Kent State and learning to fly. I teach German at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. Unfortunately, I will be in New Mexico one week before your reunion for my father-in-laws Memorial Service and I really can't see my way clear to extending that visit one more week. But it would have been wonderful to see some of you. With e-mail making our lives so much easier, it would be fabulous if all of us added some information and pictures. I just had a reunion with my brother from Germany and the one in Alabama. As we get older, we do get sentimental and it was great. It is awesome for me to realize that seen over a life-time, God had a reason for my coming by boat to America and learning to be a real American in the little town of Truth or Consequences. I have very fond memories of growing up at the lake, of helping my dad build the house at the old Hot Springs Landing, of dances at the "Teen Center", rodeos, Fun-Fare, Mrs Schwarts and Mrs. Giles. What a difference thoses wonderful people made in my life. I thank them and you for all your kindness. I still love lakes and water-skiing with my boys. Although we have grown used to the green of Ohio and the mild summers, I'm still enchanted by the south-west and we visit family in Denver, Albuquerque and Santa Fe whenever possible. Who knows, maybe someday a job opportunity will draw us back to our roots, because my husband Charles is also a native New Mexican, born in Taos and raised all over the state. I hope you have a wonderful reunion. Hats off to those of you who are putting all this work into organizing it and thanks to Debbie Goetz Donaldson, for making me aware of your plans. If anyone knows anything about my "big brother" Monty Wilson and my old buddy LeeBob Allsup, I think of them often and I'd love to get back in touch.
Kay Goldsmith Miller: We've lived at 202 Arrowhead in T or C for about 28 years. I'm still working at Bullocks Grocery as Office Manager....18 years. Terry works for the high school as their security officer, and he works for the forest service during the summer doing trail maintenance. Our children are doing well...Wendi teaches in El Paso, lives in Las Cruces. Jake lives in Albuquerque and works for a stucco company and sings in a band called Bill Street Blues. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion.
Lives in Rosebud, Texas. After serving in VN (173rd Airborne), returned to NM and married Barbara. Did telephone construction work for a few years and then settled in Rosebud, TX. Been with the phone company for almost 29 years; got my Bachlors' Degree in BA, but the outdoors seem to be where I'd much rather spend my time, so the degree hangs on the wall.
We have two sons and two grandchildren, another one due in Nov'05 and both of our boys live in Austin, TX.
Think I've pretty well tested my 'guardian angel' though my life; VN was a true adventure with time spent on Red Beach as a lifeguard. Have experienced the world of PRCA (rodeo), riding bareback broncs, survived that; then went the boating/scuba diving scene and am still around. Now, our pasttime seems to be my 2003 Harley Davidson Hertiage. What a blast and the miles are adding up. Like I said, guess I'm working my guardian angel overtime!! :))
Been years since I've seen alot of my classmates and am looking forward to seeing and hearing what's happening with you in your lives. We're hoping to make the '05 reunion, but just not sure, at this point. So, if there is anyone out there that would care to drop me/us a note, would love to hear from you.
