Florida Winter Flowering Plants

We have 1 to 3 days of frost in Florida so plan accordingly!!!!!!!!!

Petunias are about the only plant that survived the frost without losing blossoms.

Heat rises so before Christmas I plan on putting the tiny Christmas on top of my plants for decoration. After New Years I will put them under the plants so I am ready to protect my plants when the always January frosts come. I plan on gluing small stones on the edges of my sheets I use to cover my plants so they hold the sheets to the ground, keeping the warmth from the ground in and keeping the wind from blow them off. They will also be easier to put over the plants.

I learned my lesson in Flint Mi. last year and did not apply it here in Florida. I plant my tomatoes and other crops in beautiful warm weather in May only to dig 35 tomato and 8 pepper plants and put them in a box in my garage on May 26th. I replanted June 1st

The best plants in Florida , for a very showy decorative yards in winter are   Petunias,    Geraniums .   and Begonias and Regular impatiens,

These flowers do exceptionally well in the sun or shade of the short, low sun days of winter.

65% of the beautiful flowers at Cyprus Gardens are the regular impatiens and 20% are wax leaf Begonias with other flowers like geraniums and petunias making up most of the rest.  My advice is to plant what Cyprus Gardens plants the most of and water every other day.

I put fertilizer all over the garden before I start working the ground.  This puts fertilizer evenly every where the roots grow and not to strong. This produces fantastic growing plants.

Fertilize your plants like the green houses do with 3 months slow realize fertilizer. I use Vigoro it costs half as much as Osmocoat and has more of the trace ingredients needed by the plants.

Ground molesGet rid of ground moles quickly.  Pour Lemon scented Pine sol onto their mounds. They can smell a worm dropping into their hole up to 75 feet away.  Pine sol keeps them from smelling so they try to get rid of it by digging it away only to get it on their fur. They normally die in about 5 days or less.  Studies show they must eat 80 to 100 % of their weight every day.
