Soliloquy In The Key Of Jazz
(a note for Joshua - 2001 - 2005)
I. The Key
he embodies the noblest
of elements, his lyrics as fluid
as niagara falling
in a bountiful spring
with the solidity of stone houses
under temptation’s wing,
swinging to-and-fro
as destiny in his grasp
jitterbugs to his rhythm flutter…
and I gasp –
for he evokes the very essence
of now: to be one voice, unique in
waters charted, abounded
in echoes’ gush and cerulean shadows
and traditionally sinkable.
so it is rather simple that
in this moment, he inspires
me to freedom.
freedom to be as fluid
as the niagara falling in a bountiful spring.
Freedom in the groove
Beyond destiny’s wing.
II. Soliloquy
he is the center
of a storm
whose tempest whirls
rampant
on the wings of morning,
in the twilight
of cerulean blue,
into the mauve
of sunset’s dewy blush
upon golden fields
of golden wheat,
golden gentility,
and olden rarities;
golden memory
he is the epitome of lyrical romance;
whose phrases flow
rampant
on the very breathe of Lady Breeze,
in the very hair
of her antiqued peace,
into the den
of tantric jam sessions
upon ol’ melancholy cadenzas
of ol’ melancholy sloes,
tall blues notes
and tall horn blows;
ol’ melancholy soul
he is the stormy lyricist
whose romance flows
rampant
from his bosom,
reminiscent of Coltrane --
call him Joshua
call him jazz:
soliloquy in the key of jazz.
