When I Finally Sing

When I Finally Sing

When I finally sing

I’ma sing of the days

when we nighttime barbecued

and catching those ever-buzzing fireflies

were our only entertaining grace….

I’ma sing till the

skies fill with tears of joy

and the smell of honeysuckle is

nauseating

and all the neighbors insist that I stop….

And when I stop,

some little-known composer

will have written

the most beautiful

operetta from my lyrics.

(Maybe like a Porgy & Bess remix,

remixed times two.)

And even one day

I’ll sit in the balcony as one

of the three tenors sings

mine most favorite aria:

“I’m Lonesome No More”

in the key of C-minor.
