Poem Of The Moment (Joseph Rotonda)

Joseph Rotonda is a 62 year-old poet of African, Italian & American decent, whom currently resides in Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. Rotonda is a hairdresser and has one year of college experience under his belt. He 1st learned of poetry in 1971 and has been writing as a hobby ever since.

When asked, "Why do you write?" Mr. Rotonda explains in eloquently vivid detail:

"Thought-provoking words stimulate my mind, body and soul. I want to use words that walk on paper, that wake up the sun, that holds eternity sleeping on the tip of my brush."

"I want to use words that see inside an echo while tasting a rose," continues the eloquent artiste. "So I dress this world with words that dance, that give praise to Jesus, that stimulate what's inside me, that show compassion and passion in this "what's-in-it-for-me" society..."

Joe shares with us two stunning pieces from his poetry book Vincent And Theo, a lovely collection of poetry about the Van Gogh brothers. A Day With Vincent & For Vincent And Theo "shows the compassion between two brothers."

I'm sure we all will enjoy Joe's poetry, for as he adds, "Earthly thoughts don't go far with me, but the spiritual quintessence moves me into sacred ground where immortal harmony becomes a Godly symphony... Oh! What a dance."

A Day With Vincent

You reshape the sunflowers.
You reshape the landscapes.
You reshape Mother Nature
with the tip of your brush.
While your earlobe bleeds,
you put paints on the canvas
brushing on colors that spiral into the sky.
Your imagination wets wheat fields
taking you to Starry, Starry nights.
You used your hands to keep the paints warm,
while your eyes put direction into the paintings.
You danced in and out of color,
keeping your palette balanced with light from the sun.
Flowers savor the canvas with a floral scent,
while birds fly above you giving their approval.
Your blood thrashes and throbs to paint.
Théo, your brother,
puts monetary values on your paintings,
and makes arrangements for public purchase.
Will anyone ever know you?
Will they only remember you
because you cut off your earlobe?
You tried to remove the infection
in this soul-searching place
where your paintings reflected the golden silence
that elevated you to a spiritual symphony.

For Vincent and Theo

Whose undying love and loyalty for art
goes beyond what flourished
in the minds and hearts
of those who know there is more to life
than what is seen with the human eye.
To those who listen to the soulful sounds
that sunflowers make
while dancing with the eternal wind of fire,
for the tip of my brush holds purpose.
Grow in peace, and paint the heavens
with pearl-diamond thoughts
that radiate echoes of laughter.
Dance with the sun, kiss the moon,
hold the sea in your arms,
while the wind whispers to the golden Dove.
Grow in joy as you wake up the souls
of those who are passionately evolved
with kindness and gentleness,
that weave their way onto your canvas.
Such giving spirits …
