Raised in the south where time stands still,
The oaks wear their moss like and old man's beard.
An aura of grace and the mockingbird's trill,
The scent of gardenias through the curtains, tiered.
Old folks with history in the lines of their faces,
Stories from the past and a state of mind;
That neither war nor time, ever erases,
Heaven on earth, in this place, sublime.
I could travel down the river and into the sea,
Discover faraway lands and see the world.
But I know in my heart where I'm meant to be,
After all, you know, I'm a southern girl.
