THE ETERNAL DINNER

PARTY

The guests arrived in their carriages, a cool November night,

The moss swayed easily in the breeze, the house was filled with light,

The women in their finest clothes, their petticoats sweetly rustled,

The men tucked away smoking their pipes, their voices slightly muffled.

The tinkling sound of the silverware, the smell of a feast prepared,

A fireplace's warmth on every hearth, a holiday feel in the air.

An elegant dinner party in the south, none other could compare.

For while the guests laughed and dined, they were completely unaware.

A fire burned through the great house, the roof was licked by flames,

Josiah calmly moved about, he called the servants by name,

"Take it all outside," he said, then asked his guests to come,

The dinner party continued, by the eerie glow of his home.

"May the joy of this occasion never end," and so the toast began,

"And may we always be as we are tonight." the other guests joined in.

The shattering of glass against the great oak, seemed to seal their fate,

What better place to spend eternity, than behind Bonaventure's iron gate?

BONAVENTURE CEMETERY

Bonaventure Cemetery is located just outside of Savannah, Georgia. The elegant graveyard, draped in history and spanish moss, is the burial place of Georgia governors, statesmen, as well as songwriter Johnny Mercer and poet Conrad Aiken. Bonaventure Cemetery was featured in the book and the movie, "Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil." I will be adding another page with photos and "tidbits" from the "garden."
