Introduction to Micro Music Technology

Barton Polot
Assignments
For those participants electing the workshop for academic credit, I am assigning the following two projects:
  • Create a MIDI sequence.  The sequence may be an original piece of music (minimum duration 1.5 minutes) or may be rendered from a printed score (minimum duration 2.5 minutes).  The sequence must incorporate at least five different instrumental timbres and should be saved to disc as a Standard MIDI File.
  • Print a musical score.  The score can be virtually any configuration (piano, choral, chamber group, orchestral, lead sheet, etc.) but must be pre-approved by me.  All page elements should be rendered, including title, page number, copyright notice, etc.
Students will submit
(a) a floppy disc containing the two files;
(b) the printed score;
(c) a photostat of the original score.
Students may use any software to complete these projects, but be advised that in the workshop we will be using MusicShop 2.0 (sequencing) and Finale 98 (notation). Projects are due Friday 16 July.
