Ancho de la Vida is Spanish
for "The Breadth of Life." Like his name
implies, Ancho has expanded and widen Marias
parents lives. Ancho makes his home with my
parents, Amado and Mercedes Fajardo of Las Cruces, New
Mexico. For years they have tolerated my fascination in
training and showing dogs. While they allowed me to have
dogs when I was at home, they never fully appreciated the
joys of owning a dog of their own. Ancho has
opened their hearts and lives to the extraordinary world
of dogs.
My
father jumped into training and handling of Ancho
in the field earning Anchos Junior Hunter
title at 6 ½ months old. Ancho began his show
career winning a 4-point major going Best of Winners
handled by me in the Bred by Exhibitor class at the
Flagstaff Kennel Club show, which was a supported entry
by the Rio Salado Vizsla Club from Phoenix, Arizona. The
next day, Ancho won another 4-point major also
going Best of Winners.
At
the Astro World Series Dog Shows in Houston, Texas Ancho
went Winner's Dog and Best Of Winners out of the Bred by Exhibitor
class winning a 4 point major. Ancho is
pictured below with Maria and Amado, Ancho's owner.
Ancho
traveled to Los Banos, California for the 1999
Vizsla Club of America National Specialty and did very
well. Ancho won the 12 month to under 15
month Puppy Dog Sweepstakes class handled by Melissa
Thomas, then went on to win Best Puppy in
Sweepstakes beating 83 dogs and bitches. (Photo

Ancho places 2nd in Open Derby at the
Yucca German Shorthaired Pointer Club walking field trial
held in Los Lunas, NM on Nov. 13. Ancho also placed 3rd
in Open Puppy at the same field trial.
Ancho went
Winners Dog and Best of Winners for a 4-point major at
the Rio Grande Kennel Club show under Mrs. J. B.
Patterson in Albuquerque, NM on Mother's Day, May 14th,
2000 just like his mother, Vida. What a great Mother's
Day gift. The next day, Ancho, was moved up to the Best
of Breed class and won Best of Breed under judge Christina Hubbell at the
Chaparral Kennel Club show on May 15, 2000.
Ancho
has become quite an assistance dog for both my mother and
father. He is always ready to pick items up off the floor
and to carry anything he is asked to and he is always
ready to find the portable telephone wherever it may be.
Another one of Ancho's duties is to get the mail directly
from the local delivery person.
Ancho
completed his Companion Dog title by passing three in a
row and going High Scoring Dog in Trial at the Rio Salado
Vizsla Club Specialty and Obedience trial on February 22,
2005.
