Port City Jazz Band's
history
spans thirty-two years, beginning with the band's founders, Bill
Reinhart
and Steve Drivon. Although now based in Berkeley, the band takes
its name from its birthplace - the inland port city of Stockton,
California.
Five talented
musicians have
formed the core of the Port City Jazz Band for the last twenty
years.
The individual talents of the band members combined with many years of
working together has a powerful result: an extremely versatile jazz
ensemble
built on collective improvisation.
Port City Jazz Band
successfully
and beautifully incorporates traditional jazz styles, creating an
eclectic
and unique sound. Their music is strong, rich and solid: perfect
for listening and for dancing, with a repertoire that includes pop
tunes,
New Orleans street tunes, familiar Dixieland favorites, and some
unusual,
delightful surprises.
As if versatility and
range weren't
enough, the band is also expandable. Some events may require a
larger
sound, or a preference may be expressed to include drums or piano, or
both.
With the seamless addition of Clint Baker (drums) and Ray Skjelbred
(piano),
Port City Jazz Band is expandable to six or seven pieces.
