Portsmouth Bahá'í Peace Activities
Throughout its history in Portsmouth, the Bahá'í community has been active in promoting the interests of global peace. Bahá'u'lláh wrote:
"The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established"
In 1985 the Universal House of Justice, the governing body of the Bahá'í Faith, published a statement "The Promise of World Peace" This statement was presented shortly after its publication to the Mayor of Portsmouth by the Portsmouth community The promotion of Peace can best be served by creating a spiritual enviornment where the unity of humankind can flourish
The Portsmouth community has encouraged the wider community to address the promotion of peace through thoughtful and non-partisan means. Among the actions the local Bahá'í community has sponsored are:
