STAR PuppyStart out that new pup of yours with the AKC S.T.A.R. (Socialization * Training * Activity * Responsible) Puppy Program. The AKC (American Kennel Club) has developed a new program, specifically for puppies (purebred or mixed breed) to help start them out right with positive, aggression-free, reinforcement learned in a group class setting. Pups will be introduced to handling by other people, come, walk on lead and more. Handlers will have homework some nights too. In response for this display of responsible pet ownership, the team earns, "the Gorgeous Gold AKC STAR Puppy Medal, a STAR certificate, New Puppy Handbook, monthly online newsletter, and more" once their evaluation has been passed. . |
Our Foundation course is designed for the beginning dog-handler team. Emphasis is on developing training skills with the best use of positive reinforcement. This course is appropriate for pups, newly adopted older dogs, or any dog in need of training / re-training in the basics. It's a highly interactive class that provides the fundamentals of dog care, manners and basic obedience in a relaxed, easy to learn environment. We coach the handler to train their dog for attention, sit, come, lie down, and leash walking without tug-a-war. We introduce numerous cues, and give tips on many canine-related issues & opportunities. Everything is backed up with a copy of our training booklet. Family members are encouraged to attend.

What every good dog should know... in the form of working towards qualifying for the AKC's 10station Canine Good Citizen, Therapy Dogs' Active Outstanding Volunteer, Delta Societies' Pet Partner, and/or PUPS' Animals Assisting Humans awards. Beth has been an evaluator for these organizations for years, coaching dozens of teams towards their goals of qualifying. Please note: you are not required to take any training class before testing with these organizations. Beth has been asked to provide this service, sharing her 35+ years of experience to assist others on their path towards Volunteers visiting with their Companions. These classes are fun, sometimes frustrating, and very interactive. Again - the family is invited to attend!

Caring Touch is the result of Beth's love of animals, thirty-plus years working with multiple species, and her ongoing Practitionerships in Tellington TTouch Bodywork, TTEAM, Reiki, Hospice Caring Hands, and Animal Massage. Beth combines aspects of these lovely, caring works into relaxing and enjoyable learning sessions for both members of the human / companion team. Caring Touch is a gentle and positive technique, easy to learn and use, for easing the angst, releasing the tension and calming the fears of our companion animals - no matter the size. Based on compassion, the desire to help, and genuine concern - Caring Touch instructor Beth guides you to a gentler, more mutually enjoyable relationship with your companion as she teaches you how to introduce a state of relaxation and increased body awareness.

Pets Uplifting People SocietyPUPS, Pets Uplifting People Society, is the Delaware point of contact for Animal Assisted Activities. We promote the training, testing and registering of Visiting Pet/Handler teams. We work with facilities (state hospitals, long-term-care facilities, nursing homes, medical centers, doctor offices, maturity centers, daycares and more), as well as with members of our community who are interested in this volunteer activity of sharing the joy of our animals with others. PUPS is a volunteer, no financial reimbursement allowed, community service for the joy of sharing your animals with others.

We are pleased to assist others with Evaluations, Individual, Semi-Private and Group Instruction for Self-Training Service Dogs, as well as being a point-of-contact for great Service Dog Equipment.

Private/In-Home & Barn CallsLimited availability at this time: After 5pm Monday-Thursday; All day every other Friday; Various times during the weekends (Saturday afternoons, Sundays mornings). E-mail or call to speak with us - we might have an Informative Session (4-hour Workshop) that would suit you better.

Usually limited to six teams in beginning classes. Meet one hour per week for 8 weeks. If you cannot make a class - please call or email, leaving a message. If you, or your dog, are ill - please call to reschedule. We offer both indoor and outdoor classes. We will meet in light rain - never with thunder or lightening! Family members invited to attend, please call concerning very young children. No dogs the first night of all beginning classes. Casual dress (except for evaluations & Therapy Dog visiting sessions) with flat shoes highly suggested.

We offer a selection of Workshops covering all of our group class topics. Time frames range from 2-hour Introductions, to 4-hour Informative Sessions, up to all day (8-hours with working lunch) and weekend Learning Days. Depending on the workshop, you will be able to work with our companions and/or your own. We also have auditor spots available at a reduced fee. (No hands-on work, all paperwork, etc included). We will also have a selection of supplies available for purchase.
