Lurey Virginia 2001 -

A Cavern Odyssey

These photographs were taken during a vacation to Lurey Virginia in 2001.

The cavern photos were taken with a Sony Cyber-Shot F505 digital camera using 'natural' light. Since I was deep underground at the time, 'natural' light consisted of white and colored floodlights located to highlight the natural features of the rock. Rather than lug a full size tripod around, I used a tabletop tripod (about 6 inches fully extended) which I braced up against the nearest railing during the time exposures.

The caverns shown in these photos include Lurey Caverns, Skyline Caverns and Shenandoah Caverns. The non-cavern photos were taken around the town of Lurey and Skyline Drive.
