Character Sketches- Peter Pan

Although there are some songs and some dance movements in Peter Pan, these are relatively minor and will not be a part of the audition process. There will not be any singing or dancing in auditions. There will be movement games, however because many of the characters will need to move well as a part of their characters.

The Story teller (s)- Strongest character trait- ability to tell a story. Truthful acting is very important in this character. There may be one or there may be more than one, depending on results of auditions. Males or females will be cast.

Mr. Darling- Strongest trait is the ability to command the stage as a father. A range of acting will be required that goes from extreme anger and frustration to sadness and remorse. The ability to portray father via body language is important as well. He will need to work well with Mrs. Darling. Ability to perform a British accent a plus. Must be able to look a bit older. Cast as a male.

Mrs. Darling- Strongest trait is the ability to portray a mother, complete with worry, love, and care. Mrs. Darling has a strength of character and a wisdom that carry her through tough times. She will need to work well with Mr. Darling. Ability to perform a British accent a plus. Must be able to look a bit older. Cast as a female.

Wendy- Strong actor, able to portray a range of emotion. Wendy must work well with John, Michael and Peter. Ability to portray a 13 year old. Ability to perform a British accent a plus. Wendy flies. Cast as a female.

John- Strong actor, must look younger than Wendy or at least be able to be the same age as Wendy. Must work well with John, Michael, Wendy and Peter. Ability to perform a British accent a plus. John flies. Cast as a male.

Michael- Must be a smaller actor. If an actor of small stature is not found in the 8th grade or the high school, then younger children will be auditioned. Ability to perform a British accent a plus. Must work well with Wendy, John , and Peter. Michael flies. Cast as a young male.

Nana- Must be able to work on all fours. This role will be cast as either a pirate, Indian or a lost child as well. Must move well. Cast as a male or a female.

Liza- Strong actor who must move well. Liza will be cast as a smaller person. This could be a dancing role if we find and actress who is small and able to dance. Liza flies. Cast as a female.

Peter Pan- This is the central role in the show. Peter must be able to portray a thoroughly boyish little boy. He is tough, athletic, narcissistic, and a leader of a tough group of children. The first choice is a male but if a male is not found who can complete the role, then a female could be cast. He must move extremely well, be athletic and fearless. He must work well with Wendy, John and Michael. He is stunted in his personal life and unable to accept the responsibilities of an adult. Peter flies. This actor will hve major fight sequences. Cast a male first, female second.

Tinker Bell- Cast as a laser. We may record or have an actress record her dialogue. Very feminine.

Slightly, Tootles, Nibs, Curly, First Twin, Second Twin- Lost children, cast as both males and females. These roles all require strong actors. All of these roles have lines. These actors must move well and relate well to Peter and to the group as a whole. There will be fight sequences for these actors. Cast as males or females.

Bill Jukes, Cookson, Gentleman Starkey, Skylights, Noodler, Robert Mullins,Cecco- Pirates, may be cast as a male or female. Strong acting skills required. Must move well. Must work well as a group with other Pirates and with Hook. There will be fight sequences for these actors. Cast as males or females.

Smee- This is a lead role and a comedic one. Smee must work well with Hook and the other pirates. He must have a strong sense of comedy and move well. There will be fight sequences for this actor. Cast as a male or female.

Capt. James Hook- This is the second central role of the show and the most complex role. It requires a strong actor who can portray a range of emotions. Hook is a dandy ( slightly effeminate and concerned with his dress.) He must be terrifyingly cool and frightening. He must be believable as the leader of a fearsome group of pirates. He must have a good comedic sense. This role will be cast as a male. This actor will have major fights with Peter.

The Croc- This role may be double cast with another character in the show. The croc must move on the floor and be a terrifying presence. Cast as a male or female.

Tiger Lily- Tiger Lily is a lead role, although she has fewer lines than other leads. She must be a leader with a sense of the regal about her. She is cool in the face of adversity. She must move well. She must work well with Peter. This actor will have fight sequences. Cast as a female.

Jane- Jane must look younger, about 13. This role will be doubled as either a Mermaid or an Indian. Jane flies. This will be cast as a female.

The Mermaids- These could be roles where dancers are featured. The Mermaids must move well. These particular mermaids are evil and need to show in movements their evil nature. Cast as females.

The Picaninny Tribe- Roles could be either male or female . These actors must move well. These roles will have fight sequences. Cast as males or females.
