Our Claddagh Tattoos

After some careful thought and design work. We decided to get some joint-tattoos that reflected our bonds, values and heritage. We found an artist at the Flaming Dragon Tattoo (Tacoma, WA) who came up with a fantastic design we just loved.

The Claddagh: There are many iterations of the Claddagh's meaning (though most are similar). Most popularly held to is a ring, depicting two hands clutching a heart, complete with a crown, that epitomizes the expression of lasting love and eternal friendship. The heart symbolizes love, the hands friendship and the crown loyalty and fidelity. Another close version says, "The hands are there for friendship, The heart is for love. For loyalty throughout the year, The crown is raised above" while a quite simple and romantic version states, "With these hands, I give you my heart... and crown it with my love". For us, it's in respect to our friendship, love and loyalty that's held us together for so long.

The Knot work weave is Celtic in style (originating from the early Christian era of about 400 AD). Popular belief is that Celtic knot work is representative of, "... the interconnection of life and humankind's place within the universe" (a concept/mindset for which we both have great respect). This weave is a variation of the "Lover's Knot"; two together as one without end.
