Belt-Engine Driven Reverse Osmosis Pump for Sailboats

The Belt-Drive Reverse Osmosis Pump with Clutch and Pulley system is popular for sailboats or vessels without generator sets.  This pump easily mounts on the main engine and is belt-driven.  The 12 VDC clutch (only 1 amp) allows you to start and stop the pump from a remote location. The PRO series uses only 2 HP from your main engine. When not in use the belt simply free wheels until you activate the clutch. This is an installation on a 26' Osprey with Volvo Turbo Diesel engine.  The entire PRO 500 Module Watermaker fits inside the engine compartment.

Why I sould consider belt drive vs 12 dc electric? Answer: We have a great deal of experience in this area. DC current can pencil out....rarely. The most efficient, reliable way to make a lot of water in a short amount of time is with brute force. The belt drive from your main engine is perfect for this. Simply activate the clutch and you are making water. No blown high current, no replacing batteries over and over again, no damaged inverter. Plus you can make all the water you need in one or two hours, and charge your batteries at the same time without adding a genset to your boat.

The Engine-Drive Reverse Osmosis Pump with 12VDC Clutch features:

The pump is normally mounted to the engine by attaching a small metal platform 6” x 5” that the pump feet will bolt onto.  The feet are slotted to allow the V-belt to be tightened.  The pulley uses an “A” series industrial V-belt.
