VPW Wins Statewide Community Theatre Competition

The Village Playhouse of Wauwatosa is proud to announce that their production of Dogs of the Blue Gods won first place at the Wisconsin State AACTFest. Under the able direction of Tom Zuehlke, a talented and experienced cast consisting of Tony Breitrick, Tim Kleinschmidt, Erico Ortiz and Brian Roloff brought the first place trophy to the Milwaukee area for the first time since 1991.

AACTFest is a biennial competitive theatre festival run under the auspices of the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT). Having won at the state level, the Village Playhouseís production will now advance to the regional level in Muncie, Indiana April 10th, 1999. In Muncie, Dogs of the Blue Gods will compete against the winning productions from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois for the chance to represent the Great Lakes Region at the AACT National Festival being held in Memphis, Tennessee the middle of July.

Dogs of the Blue Gods is an original play by South African playwright Ian Fraser and deals with persecution carried out by a group of attack dogs. However, the play takes an unusual turn in that itís presented from the point of view of the dogs themselves. When a new, untrained dog is thrown in with the pack, the dogs begin to question their own actions and the actions of the "Blue Gods" (police) that seem to control their destiny.
