II. It is very important to look
ahead and determine the programs that are needed in the church and then design
the new facility accordingly. For example, at
Forty-three of the 75 forms had a response to this question. The responses are summarized below:
12 forms stated that we should have a youth basketball program.
13 said that the facility should focus on the youth of our church and the community. The facility should allow expanded youth programs and outreach. Some mentioned the idea of a youth canteen or "coffee house". Additional emphasis on Quizzing was mentioned on a few forms.
Some suggested outreach programs for the community at large such as dinners, speakers, music programs, etc. The Game dinner was cited as an example of such programs.
One respondent stated that the building program is premature and we should focus on missions instead of a new facility.
Both volleyball and deck hockey were mentioned as possible programs.
Some mentioned that a stage could be used for many kinds of presentations.
One emphasized the need for a young adult (age 18-35) ministry.
Some said that the facility should be open to the community. A few mentioned that we should rent it to outside groups. Other respondents didn't think this was a good idea.
Air-conditioned classrooms were mentioned on a few forms.
Exercise classes for older adults were suggested.
V. In the space that follows please provide any ideas you may have about the design of the new facility or any other input you would like to provide to the Building Committee. Also, your thoughts on how the new facility should be financed would be appreciated.

Many of the responded provided very specific advice. For instance, advice was given on the heating system, lighting, etc. These specifics will be considered if the project progresses to the building stage. One of the youth did a fine job making a detailed layout of a new 2-floor facility. This will also be carefully considered.
Many respondents discussed the kitchen. Some suggested expanding the existing kitchen. Others preferred converting the existing kitchen into classroom space and building a new kitchen.
Many people stated that the existing building should be paid off before the new facility is started. One person suggested that a new giving category should be added so that people can start designating money to this project.
Three people suggested a jogging/walking track around the multi-purpose room.
One person stated that the program is ill conceived and we should use our resources to help others in need rather than build any new facilities.

One respondent suggested that we consider using the facility for a church/Christian school or for seminary/missions classes. We would collect a fee for this. Also, the facility could be used to support local home schoolers. It could be used for a small day care program.
A few people mentioned that locker rooms are not needed. Also, some mentioned that a stage serves the same purpose as bleachers. One mentioned use of a portable stage.
The need for expanded youth oriented facilities was emphasized on some forms. A special area for teens was cited as being important.
Some forms expressed concern with staffing the new programs and taking care of the new facility. More people will need to be recruited.
One respondent said that our property is too small and we should look to relocate rather than expand our current facility.
One mentioned that a weight room would be a good idea.
