Minutes from Building Committee Meeting - July 12, 2003 - 10:30AM

Attendees: Dave Cain, Roy Koch, Jim Nelson, Pastor Norris, Bob Tierney, Pastor Wood

1.      Prayer

The meeting started with prayer for various needs of the church congregation and for the work of the Building Committee.

2.      Review successes since last meeting

A review of progress to date was presented to the congregation at the July 2 meeting.  Also, the congregation survey was completed.

3.      Congregation Survey - Discuss results of survey.

The committee spent about two hours discussing the survey results.  A total of 75 forms were filled out and returned.  These results will assist the Building Committee in developing a design for the new facility.  The results reviewed by the committee are posted on the Building Committee’s web site.

During the discussion it was decided to request the Advisory Group to examine the purpose and potential use for the current fellowship hall.

4.      Facility Visits - How many other facilities should we visit? What facilities will we pick?

Two more facility visits will be scheduled.  Pastor Wood will contact the pastor of the Hempfield Presbyterian Church to schedule a visit.  Also, Pastor Norris will contact officials from the Norwin School District to set up a visit to the Sunset Valley Elementary School.  The latter visit is in response to feedback on the congregation survey.  It was agreed that these will be the last visits.  We need to configure that FRC based on the programs we expect will take place in our church.

5.      Creative Planning Session - CPS is on July 19.  Discuss agenda for CPS.

Pastor Jeff, Tom Mowrer, and Roy Koch will meet on July 14 to finalize the agenda for the CPS.  The purpose of the CPS is to gather more ideas for the new facility.  Also, “brainstorming” sessions will take place to help clarify specific issues (e.g. will there be a new kitchen and, if so, what will it look like?)

6.      Discuss overall plan - especially near term planning between CPS and presentation of layout to Governing Board in November.

The overall plan was presented to the committee last month and is attached to the June 14 meeting minutes.  The next task if for the BC to make a layout of the new facility and present it for Governing Board (GB) review and approval.  The presentation to the GB is planned for November 2003.  If the GB approves the layout then an architect will be hired to further develop the layout.  Pastor Wood stated that it would be valuable for the architect to make a model of the layout as part of his work.

7.      Other Items

Near the end of the meeting a general discussion took place concerning the purpose and philosophy of the building program.  The following points were made:

8.      Adjournment

The meeting ended at 1:40 PM.  The next Building Committee meeting is scheduled for Saturday, August 9 at 9 AM.
