About Me
"Life
is but a chance to grow a soul."
- - A. Powell
Davies
Since
the summer of 2000, I have served as
minister of the
Saltwater Unitarian Universalist
Church, a congregation of more than 200 members. The church is in Des Moines, but members
come from all over South King County.
I truly enjoy being a minister. For me, ministry is
about helping people grow spiritually and helping
make the world more loving and more just.
I am
married and live with my wife and sonin Federal Way, Washington. I
love living in the Pacific Northwest.
How did I become a Unitarian Universalist minister?
I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, and like many
people of my generation, I grew up unchurched. As I
grew older, I didn’t think organized religion was
for me, but it also seemed as if there was something
missing in my life. I discovered Unitarian
Universalism in my early twenties, and it was
different from any other religious tradition I had
known. The first Sunday
morning I stumbled into a Unitarian Universalist
church, I knew I had found a religious home.
Several years passed before I discerned a call to
ministry. During those years, I worked as a
journalist, a teacher, and a trainer for a Japanese
corporation.
For four of those years, I lived in Tokyo, Japan,
where I met my wife, who is a native of
Tokyo.
I was ordained to ministry in 2000 and am
credentialed by the Unitarian Universalist
Association. I have received a doctor of ministry
degree from Meadville/Lombard Theological School, an
institution affiliated with the
University of
Chicago, and a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy
from the University of Illinois.
