Washington, DC trip 9/15/06

On Friday Sep 15, 2006 we took a bus trip to Washington, DC.  We had a great time.  The only thing bad was we had to get on the bus at 4:45 AM.  That is pretty early for us anymore.  But once we got going you soon forgot how early it was.  We have driven down to DC several time, but you find parking the car to be a real pain.  The bus is really great.  It lets you off in a close place and then you can walk to the sites.

The reason we left so early is we had a 7:30 AM tour of the White House.  That was really neat.  It was hard to believe that you were in the place where so many of our presidents have lived and also the places you see everyday on the news cast.  Don't think I would want to live there, but is was nice to see.  I didn't see a comfy chair anywhere.  I would imagine they are all upstairs in the living quarters that you do not get to see.  Too bad they will not let you take cameras in the White House or I would have taken some photos.  The security is very tight, you could not take anything with you on the tour.  No purses, cameras.  You had to go through metal detectors that were very sensitive.  I even had to take off my belt because the buckle kept setting them off.

This is our little group, Mary Ann, Ann, Teresa, Chris and Mary in front of the Washington Monument.

Chris, Mary and Teresa looking at some of the many plaques at the WWII Memorial.

Yep, I was there.  This is Teresa and I at the WWII Memorial.

At the WWII Memorial there are memorials for those who served from each of the states and provinces.  This is Chris at the Delaware site.

Teresa takes a little break.  If you go you will do a lot of walking.  Even taking the tour bus there is a lot of walking from site to site.

While we were there a group of Vets were placing a wreath at the Viet Nam Memorial.

I am sorry I didn't get more photos of the Viet Nam Memorial, but I got kind of choked up and just forgot to take the photos.  I was never in the military, but it was a major concern in my teen years and I did have several friends and neighbors who were injured or kill there.  Teresa had to very close neighborhood friends who lost their lives there and we very excited to find their names on the wall.  What a shame, we lost so many young lives in that "what ever it was".

This is Teresa at the wall pointing to the name of here childhood friend.

Ooops, looks like she is mad.  Nope, I think just a little tired from all that walking.

This is the Lincoln Memorial.  You can just see our group down in the lower left corner of the photo.

This is inside on the Lincoln Memorial.

We had lunch at the Hotel Washington.  They have a restaurant on the top floor and it is open air and gives you a great view of the city.  This is one of the best photos I got of the White House.

There were also a few people in town that were a little upset with George.  I can't understand why!

This is a photo I took of the Capital Building.

One last photo of the group in front of the Washington Monument.

Great trip, had a very nice time, but very tired when we got home.
