The Case of the Mysterious Voices
Rules and Clues
1. Players have ninety minutes to identify the Mystery Guest using both clues posted for them to decipher and questions they ask in chat. Questions must be messaged in blue to Prima Vera Angelhair (remember to change spaces to underscores) or 144394, my player number.
2. More time may be alloted in the case of events that would detract from the listeners' time. At the end of the time period granted, listeners are to list clearly and neatly, those clues OF THOSE POSTED which they believe they have managed to solve and send them in kmail (green message) first to the suspected Mystery Guest, then to myself (Prima Vera Angelhair, #144394). Please number your list neatly rather than providing one massive paragraph.
3. The Mystery Guest will be referred to during the show by a pseudonym specifically chosen NOT to given anything about their identity away. This is to help myself and any other guests besides the Mystery Guest avoid accidentally naming them. Keep in mind that frequently the Mystery Guest is not my only guest, and that fellow DJs and other players may sometimes join the cast for the show.
4. Questions must be suggested by listeners via blue message unless long enough to warrant green. Blue message is preferred and more likely to be noticed. To message me, type /msg 144394 or /msg Prima_Vera_Angelhair. Please do NOT use AIM, Skype, or any other method to ask contest questions.
5. Questions that ask for overly specific information will not be answered. These include:
?1? Asking if a guest frequents a specific chat channel. Questions which the answers to would only be known by a small section of the listeners will not be answered.
?2? Asking about real world activities, places, habits, etc. because you suspect you know the guest and are trying to peg them with OOG (out of game) info.
?3? Questions that by their nature would narrow down the list of possibilities by an incredibly margin. The best example of this is asking about Custom Avatars; these can be viewed on the Coldfront site, and as such the possessor of one could only be one of a couple hundred or so people. In the rare case somebody's avatar hadn't been posted yet, this would be even more of a dead giveaway. Other examples include asking about specific items of gear, individual familiars, favorite food, favorite booze, trying to peg each of their trophies, etc. There are ways to ask questions about these that would be more general, such as if their favorite booze/food is trophy-based, general power level of items, etc.
6. Please do NOT pm, im, kmail, or in any other way try to contact and feel out suspected mystery guests. This pulls them away from the show and undermines the basis of the contest, which is to figure out their identity based on the clues provided, not by prodding at potential positives until you find one who reacts oddly or doesn't respond. Those who badger my guests will be disqualified.
7. If you ask "is the Mystery Guest so-and-so" in a non-joking manner, you will be ignored or chastised. The identity of the Mystery Guest will not be revealed until the time period is up and the evidence is collected. Nor will I read out the names of suspects, as to avoid naming my guest by omission should somebody actually mention them. You are free to posit your guesses to me in private, but do not expect any sort of helpful response. This does not go for guesses which are obviously humorous or joking in nature, naturally. For the sake of allowing contestents to boast about being the first to guess correctly, you ARE allowed to blue message your guesses, just don't expect a response, and don't do it continuously; once, a couple of times even, is enough, unless of course your answer changes. This is largely so we can determine who did guess correctly first (and so somebody can potentially say "I beat Ricket to the punch").
8. Only the posted clues count toward winning. The person with the most correct wins. In the event of a tie, there will be typically be a rolloff. On rare occasions, due to generosity in donations or insanity on my part, runners-up or ties may receive prizes.
9. This is not really a rule but rather a helpful guideline; keep your list neatly numbered and succinct. If you are too verbose, you risk going over the maximum number of characters a kmail allows. If you have a long list, I strongly suggest you have your message save to your outbox when you send it and check it just to be certain, after first C&Ping the list to another document. Should you find it is cut off, include the remainder with a note as to why your list is in two parts.
11. Be certain of your list before you send it. If you remember or think of a clue after sending your list, it is too late to send it in, except in the case of a split list due to length. Please do not fake a split list to get more answers in. Please send it to the suspected Mystery Guest first, then to me, and include in the version you send to me who you think my guest is.
12. These rules are subject to change as needed. For example, I used to allow questions about custom avatars before it was brought to my attention that Coldfront featured a section listing them all (I'd seen the list before, but had forgotten about it in the context of my show). Believe me when I say there ARE techniques the most successful players use to nail my guests every time, and if you are clever and creative you can learn to do this yourself. I do ask that people don't spread around the techniques they use, as I hope that each individual will discover them on their own. I guarantee that the way I have this set up, you CAN always figure out by the end of my show who the guest is.
Thank you, everybody, and good luck!
