Mount Adams: 7.17 - 7.18.05 |
|
Sunday 7/17 I hiked up Trail 113 on the Northwest side of Mount Adams in the Gifford
Pinchot National Forest. I'd planned to take the week off to do some hiking and camping in
Washington State; this was my first hike of the week and was a relatively easy one, though it
certainly wasn't a boring one! My plan was to hike from the 4600 foot trailhead up to the 6900 foot
"High Camp," do some exploring, stay the night, then hike out in the morning.
The weather was perfect, and the hike beautiful. My only complaint was that the mosquitos were fierce. Aside from one other couple (who disappeared after they stopped off to filter water) I had High Camp completely to myself. The campsite was fantastic, and the views and exploring were great. I swear I even heard some rumblings from Mt. St. Helens, and saw a plume of smoke wafting off to the East in the sunset (see below). |
