Quint's Background (How did he get this way?)
Born: April 1976
Education: BS in Manufacturing Engineering, Oregon State University, 2000
Work Exprience:
"Specialty metals" manufacturer Wah Chang, 2000 - 2003. Worked around machinists, millwrights, electricians, and engineers and asked a lot of questions. Worked with industrial control systems (PLC's), robotics, and gained a great understanding of the different types of sensors and how a computer can use that information to make decisions. Much of this learning experience would not have been possible without the knowledge and patience of a certain Electrical Engineer who was willing to answer my questions and gave me the tools to understand and program PLC's. Thanks Ken.
Riflescope manufacturer Leupold & Stevens, 2003 - Present. Work as the Manufacturing Engineer for Mount Systems. I justify new equipment, solve safety/ergonomic issues, and implement process improvements. Basically I get paid to search for a better way to do things.
Quint's Philosophy
Most of my useful knowledge I credit to my own energy and determination to ask questions and understand what makes things work. My engineering degree gave me a solid background in theory, but it takes more than good test scores to make things happen in the real world. In the end it's the person, not the education, that determines what you're capable of. Some engineers make the list of the smartest people I know, while others I wouldn't trust to change the oil in my car.
The wonderful thing is no matter who you are we're all bound by the same physical laws as everyone else. You can think you have the right answer, but in the end the laws of physics will tell you loud and clear whether you covered all your bases. No playing favorites, no partial credit.
