Providing Panoramic Tours of Lake Guntersville

You must have QuickTime and the Quicktime Plug-In for your Web browser installed before viewing many of the movies on this site. Also, you may wish to review the instructions on how to pan and zoom before you start the tour.

Overview

This site provides visitors with visual tours of the Lake Guntersville and Huntsville area. The above picture was created from a print which is sold by "Impressions Studio and Gallery" of Guntersville Alabama. The original photo was taken on December 10, 1991 from an altitude of about 4,400 feet. The red dots in this picture are locations of active panoramic movies. Enjoy the colors and take a panoramic Virtual Reality (VR) tour of Lake Guntersville. New panoramic movies are being created and will be added, check back often. The movies are best viewed with your monitor set to thousands or millions of colors.

General Information

This scene was taken at the intersection of Lurleen Wallace drive and Highway 431 at the Northern entrance to the city of Guntersville. The above photo was an intermediate step in creating a 360-degree Panoramic VR Movie near the Guntersville Chamber of Commerce building. This photo was created by "stitching" together 18 individual photos.

Conceptually, the above photo is then placed on the inside of a cylinder and the ends of the photo are joined together to create the virtual movie. A VR movie is viewed as if standing inside a cylinder and the movie rotates around as it is panned left or right. The VR Movie also provides viewers with the ability to zoom in or out at any given location within the movie.

The movies presented at this site are based on Apple Computers QuickTime VR technology. The movies can be Web or CD-ROM based, providing your customers with the ability to take interactive tours of your facility or products. In addition to 360 panoramic movies as shown above, this same technology can be used to provide customers with the ability to view your products.

Sample Object Movies

An object movie lets the customer observe three-dimensional objects, such as a rain coat, Cartman, or a John Deere farm implement, from a variety of angles. Object movies can be rotated and the viewer can zoom in and out for a closer look at the item.
