The Utah Women's Alliance for Building Community announced that Quilters Without Borders will be one of three groups receiving their 2011 Community Builder Awards. Thanks to Valoree McDowell for nominating QWB. Two other groups will be receiving the project grants. The announcement says:
Quilters Without Borders brings together women of different faiths in a way that encourages friendships and heals religious divides; women work together to produce quilts that are given to those in need—babies, children’s hospitals, the sick or homeless.
.
Quilters Without Borders is an interfaith service group which meets the first Thursday of each month to tie quilts for various charities. Anyone is welcome to attend--no quilting experience necessary, no religious affiliation necessary. There is to be no proselytizing. It is simply an opportunity for people to come together to be of service and to make friends with those of other faiths. You are welcome to attend a meeting listed here, or to start a branch of QWB in your area. (see the “About Us” page for more information)
People can participate by:
-showing up ready to tie quilts
-donating fabric, yarn or batting
-donating finished quilts
-finishing the edges on quilts to prepare them for tying
-offering a meeting space for the first Thursday of a month, 7-9 p.m.
Next Meeting:
Thursday, February 2, 7:00 - 8:00p.m.
