INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING QUILTS FOR DELTA‘A QUILT FOR EVERY BED’
1. Make sure top and bottom fabric pieces are the same size, if not trim edges to match.2. Place fabric with right-sides together (the right sides are the sides that will be the outside of the quilt when completed).
3. Place batting on top of the 2 pieces of fabric and cut to size, with edges pinned.
4. Sew around all 4 sides leaving about an 18-inch unstitched section on a smaller side. This is the place you will pull the fabric through to turn the quilt right side out. I sew on the fabric and have had no problem with the batting. If you have a problem with your feed dog catching on the batting, place a piece of newspaper on the underside of the batting (between the batting and the feed dog) and pull it away after you are done stitching.
5. Trim diagonally across all 4 corners before pulling fabric through 18" opening.
6. Use closed scissors to poke corners to a point.
7. Tuck in the unfinished edges along the 18" opening and pin.
8. Sew the pinned opening closed getting as close to the edge as you can.
9. Sew a ½ inch finishing stitch around the entire quilt.
10. Sew around all four edges of the QWB tag right above the finishing stitch on the bottom right corner of the quilt. The tag can be ironed on before stitching. We ask that the tag be stitched on, as after a few washing it will come off if it is not stitched.
11. Mark where to tie the quilt if there is no obvious pattern, or if the pattern is larger than every 4”.

Team Quilting
These instructions are for use in making 45x72” tied quilts, utilizing a 2, 4 or 5 person team technique for assembly and finishing.
- Cutting fabric and an 81x96 quilt batt
- Member A unfolds the quilt batt completely, and then folds over the batt from top to bottom so there is a batt that is 81x48. Cut along the fold and stack in 2 piles for 2 quilts.
- Member B takes 2 lengths of fabric, each 72” long and folds it lengthwise. Stack the fabric with the folds aligning and the narrowest fabric on top; you will have 4 layers of fabric. Place straight pins along the folded edge to hold it together. Refold the fabric so you now have a 36” length with the narrowest fabric on top; there are 8 layers of fabric. Using a 45 mm roller cutter, a 24x36 cutting mat and a 24” O’Lipfa ruler, lay the ruler along the selvedge edge of the narrowest fabric. Cut ¼” of the selvedge away. This step assures both pieces of the fabric are the same length and width.
- Repeat this procedure so you will have 4 lengths of fabric for 2 quilts. Cut all the batts and fabric before proceeding to the next step. Remove all the pins from the center folds.
- Assembling the quilt, both team members working across from each other
- Open the quilt batt out onto a large area, such as 2 work tables set together. Unfold the fabric and lay the first piece onto the batt, with the underside of the fabric against the batt and the face of the fabric on top. The batt will be larger than the quilt; trim away the excess batt.
- Unfold the 2nd length of fabric and place it face down on the 1st fabric.
- Place straight pins along the edges about every 12” and the center fold.
- Repeat this procedure with the 2nd set of fabrics using your 2nd batt
- If you are doing more than 2 quilts, I recommend you assemble all of the quilts before you start sewing.
- Sewing the quilt together: each member of the 2-person team sews a quilt.
- With the fabric on top and the batting underneath start along the top edge with a ½” seam allowance; begin sewing about 15” from the side. Sew along the sides and bottom and end at the top leaving about a 15” opening.
- Remove all the pins, turn the quilt inside out and iron along the seams, pressing under the seam allowance at the unsewn opening.
- Stitch along the edge of the opening
Your quilts are now ready to be tied!
For a team of 4: There will be 3 stations with one person cutting the batts, 1 person cutting fabric and 2 people assembling the quilts. When all of your quilts are assembled, 3 people can sew while one removes the pins, turns and presses the quilts. Team members at the sewing machines will stitch the closures.
For a team of 5: The extra person will start sewing the quilts as they are assembled. Other people will join in with the sewing when all the quilts are assembled with 1 person from the team doing the pressing station.
