Log 2 - Beaver Island, Michigan |
| Hello from Robins Nest on Beaver Island
We left Boyne City at 6:45 this morning (Thursday). Motored all the way to Charlevoix and got there in time to make the 9:00 AM bridge opening. For once Mother Nature smiled on us and we sailed on a beam reach with all our sails up. As we neared the island the wind really picked up. We dropped the staysail, reefed the main and were still moving along at 6.8 to 7.0. The wind continued to build until we were sailing with only the headsail and still doing 6.5 to 6.8. We are tied up at the Beaver Island Yacht docks. The anchorage here is not real great. The wind is still blowing hard and thunderstorms are predicted. Robin convinced me to take a slip. We will be here until Saturday or Sunday. Our next stop will probably be the Les Cheneaux Islands (spelling?, yeah I know I could look on the chart!). If the weather cooperates we will go as far east as Harbour Island which is just east of Detour. More Later Russ and Robin |
