2006 Alumni Game Results.

8-5-06,     The 2006 Alumni game was a huge success! A Great day for P-O Girls

Soccer and a fantastic time was had by all!! I would like to express our gratitude to

the P-O Soccer Boosters for hosting the day's event, the Alumni Team, the High

School Girls Team, my assistant coaches Kylie Wood & Avis Ritter, Coach Fenton

and Evan Butterworth for officiating, Jim Josephson for all the field maintenance

and to all those who helped in making the day such a good time.

The game got underway at 11:00am with some very good play by both sides.

In the early going it appeared the Teams were fairly equal with neither creating

many quality chances at goal. The first of the four quarters (scrimmage format) ended

with in a 0-0 knot with neither side really establishing any possession over the other.

Alumni Keeper Kim (Dog) Conklin nor P-O's Kathryn Ritter were tested with any shots

on frame in the first quarter.

Getting Ritter out of the net proved to be advantageous to the High School squad as

Ashlea Cowher found Kathryn in a good run and connecting with the pass,

Kathryn gathered the ball and deposited it in the goal just out of reach of Conklin

to put the P-O Team up 1-0. Cowher was rewarded shortly after as newcomer

Mercy Snyder made good on a pass that Cowher blasted past the outstretched

body of Conklin putting P-O up by 2 to end the 2nd quarter. Snyder had a very

good showing for her first time on a soccer pitch. She uses her speed well and shows

a good bit of potential. Lauren Stout and Ritter combined for the shut out of the

Alumni Team in the first half of play.

The Alumni started to gain good possession but still finding it difficult to get any

quality shots. The High School Team though were just beginning to find their rhythm.

Freshman Debi Hirschbiel made her presence known as she knocked the ball around well

and made a quality pass to Cowher who again had to much power on her shot for Conklin

to handle. Hirschbiel is an experienced freshman who knows the game well.

Erica Pilgram had just the game I was expecting to see from her. She has worked really

hard over the off season this winter and spring and it is paying big dividends. She was

and I expect she will be all season a dominate player on the field. She really took charge

and controlled the game. The Alumni Team openly admitted having difficulty containing her.

All of Pilgram's hard work paid off in the form of an assist to Cowher's "Hat Trick"

late in the 3rd quarter to put the P-O Girls up 4-0. When teams give Ashlea the time to shoot,

she will make them pay. Her accuracy is really coming on.

The Alumni Team finally got some pressure on the P-O Girls Keeper as

All-State player Becky McCamley took a punt from Conklin all the way in and beat freshman

keeper Hirschbiel to save some face and spark some momentum for the Alumni Team  into.

That spark was quickly snuffed out though as pesky Pilgram FINALLY made

good on a shot from a Cowher assist. It was good to see Erica get one in the net after so many near misses.

The P-O Girls defense did a great job containing all of the talent on the Alumni Team,

but McCamley displayed why she was an All-State player as she got in again on the young

P-O keepers and set the final score at P-O Girls 5 and the Alumni 2.

Again I want to thank everyone for all that they did, a good time was had by all!
