Motorhome “baby-gate” project (for the dogs)

Early on, we found out that it was a pain in the neck and worrisome to try to keep the Basenji’s (dogs) from “charging” the door whenever anybody entered or left.  We are always concerned that their curiosity may cause them to dash into the path of a car if they bolt outside, especially at rest or grocery stops, and people who enter and leave that are not familiar with the personality of a Basenji, can’t realize that they WILL bolt out the door when it is opened.  It’s not that they “attack”, but that they are curious, and very few are “street smart” like your average Labrador or hound-dog.

This is also a viable solution for RV’ers that have small children, whether they have dogs or not.

This is what it looks like as you enter the motorhome.  Please disregard the red bars.

That was a primer, which has since been painted Kelly Green to match interior trim.

It opens to allow passage to the kitchen area to loading and unloading groceries.

The hinges have removable pins (without tools) so that the gate can be placed out of the way.

This is what it looks like closed.  No permanent modifications or alterations were made.

The entire thing can be removed by unscrewing about six screws leaving nearly no trace.

This is a picture of it closed from the galley side.  The “table” in the background is a template.

I made it from a piece of cardboard to check the size of a free-standing table that I want to make.

The top rail of the gate was finished off with another piece of wood to hide the tops of the bars.
