2012 OOTL Baseball 3rd Period Series Recaps

Lemonheads 1, Asian Tsunamis 2

Etters, PA

Game 1:

Zobrist triples in 2nd to score Morse and give Tsunamis a 1-0 lead. After probable 2012 Tsunami MVP Mike Napoli hit a two-run blast in the 3rd the Asians lead 3-0. Buerle then appeared to be cruising to another CG but in the 7th the Lemonheads bats exploded. Manager Ted Williams stubbornly left Buerle in and Weeks and Davis doubles combined with a BB, error, single and David Ortiz 3-run HR gave the Lemons a 5-3 lead.

However, Jose Bautista lead off the bottom of the 9th with a double and was moved to 3rd on a Derek Jeter single. Mike Napoli would then step to the plate as the winning run against +55 power Casilla. As the fand shouted NAPOLI, NAPOLI, NAPOLI, Casillla would blow a 96 mph pitch by him to get the K. Next it was two-time OOTL MVP and recent MLB Triple Crown (and future MVP) Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera has batted a dismal .245 this season but still has 15 HR.s As Cabrera swings a 66/1 HR is rolled. As Casilla rolls a 6 and cannot turn back the Asians are already celebrating a 6-5 walkoff win.

Game 2:

The Lemonheads showed great pride and relentless bouncing back after the Game 1 heartbreaker. Fielder hit two homers and all the Tsunamis could muster was Napoli's 15th HR of the season. Lemonheads win 7-1

Game 3:

Kuroda and his +32 control was very sloppy early and Lemons took 2-0 lead, Long-time Asian Ben Zobrist hit a two-run shot in the 5th to tie the game and in the 7th he singled to score Eric Young and give the Asians a 3-2 lead, Konerko then doubled home two runnners in the 8th to make it 5-2. The Tsunami hammers Downs and Robertson came on for an inning each to get the save and the 40th winn for the Asians. Tsunamis now 40-26.

Two collisions resulted in 4 injuries including a 12 game penalty. Again my vote is to eliminate extended injuries beyond the present game as they are already built into our allowed games figures.

Birds of Pray 1, Eliminators 2

Gm 1 - Elim 4 BOP 1 Jay Bruce's PH 2 run homer in the 7th broke up a 1-1 tie and propelled the Eliminators to the win.

Gm 2 - Elim 4 BOP 0 Dan Haren pitched a CG 3 hit shutout

Gm 3 - BOP 4 Elim 3 (11 inn) Brett Lawrie's solo HR in the 2nd game the Eliminators the early 1-0 lead. Alex Gordon would help the BOP go up 3-1 with a 2 run HR in the 5th. The Eliminators would cut the lead in half following Lawrie's 2nd HR in the 7th. In the bottom of the 8th, Alfredo Aceves walked the bases loaded, but Dan Uggla would ground into a 3-6-3 DP to end the threat. A roar erupted from the Diamond Dogg club house. The Eliminators would give the Diamond Doggs more to cheer about in the top of the 9th as Jose Reyes led off the inning with a triple. Reyes would tie the game on a Jacoby Ellsbury ground out. Everything was quiet until the bottom of the 11th when Jeff Samardzjia stepped on the rubber with lighter and gas can in hand. His destruction was quick as he started the inning with a walk to Chase Headley and served up the game winning double to Ryan Theriot. That's it....2 batters and it was over....joy for the Shooting Stars for cliniching the #1 seed....joy for the BOP as they clinch a tie for a playoff bid....and despair for the Diamond Doggs whose playoff hopes now hang by a thread. It was announced following the game that Samardzjia would be left off the Eliminator's post season roster.
