G-3 C. Davis homered twice (#17 & 18), driving in 5 to lead the Birds to a 6-2 win. Colon went 7.2 IP 4 hits 1 earned run. C. Denorfia doubled in two runs for the Heads.

Game 2 - Speakers cling to a 1-0 lead on a 4th inning unearned run. The ABs finally figure out Felix Hernandez (3-10) in the 7th. With the score tied 1-1, Chase Utley greets Trevor Rosenthal with a 2-out 2-run HR. Matt Weiters' 2-out 2-run blast in the 8th seals the victory for Tanner Roark, 5-1.
Game 3 - Brandon Moss connects for the 20th time in the 2nd. With 2 away that same inning, Ubaldo Jimenez surrenders another solo shot to Andrelton Simmons (3). The ABs get one back in the 3rd triggered by Russell Martin's double. Simmons triples to lead off the Speakers 5th and eventually scores on an Anthony Rendon fielder's choice ground ball. The pens and the Speakers gloves (2 GIDP) take over from that point for a 3-1 final. Casey Janssen (1-2) gets Matt Holliday to ground out to Manny Machado with the tying run at the plate to record his 5th save.
The ABs out-hit the Speakers 18-14, but drop a pair due to a lack of clutch hitting.
Monday, September 29 - Birds of Pray at The Plague
G-1 The Plague got 8 strong from Fernandez, 4 hits 0 BBs 9 Ks 1 earned
run, & a solo from Santana for a 4-3 win.
G-2 T. Hunter tripled, homered & doubled in his first 3 ABs, driving in 2, to lead The Plague to an 8-3 win. The Plague got back-to-back triples to start the game. Votto went 3-4 with 2 doubles, a triple & 2 RBIs for the Birds.
G-3 The Birds built a 6-2 lead on a 4-run 5th before The Plague scored 4 in the 8th to tie at 6. The Birds got a Markakis homer in the 12th & held on for a 7-6 win. A. Gordon 3-6 with 2 RBIs. T. Hunter homered & drove in 2 for the Plague.
In a strange defensive series, The Plague had 4 errors in G-1, (1 each outfielder) & committed 7 errors in the series. The Birds had 3 errors & a WP in the series.
Tuesday, September 30 - Lemonheads at Speakers
Game 1 - The Heads score two 2-out runs in the 4th on Juan Uribe's RBI double followed by Neil Walker's RBI single. The Speakers answer with one in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back 2-out doubles from Buster Posey and Howie Kendrick.
Bob's offense explodes in the 7th by starting the inning with three hits. Two more would follow AJ Ellis' RBI groundout. When the dust settles, four runs cross the plate.
The Lemonheads behind Hisashi Iwakuma's CG game cruise to a 6-2 win. Danny Salazar (1-1) suffers the loss. Brandon Moss connects for the 21st time in the 8th.
Game 2 - Two walks and a Zack Greinke wild pitch put the Speakers on the board in the 1st. However, the "shutdown inning" becomes a 5-run explosion instead, including 2 doubles and 2 HRs (by Ian Desmond and Alexi Rios).
The Lemonheads continue to tack on single runs in the 5th, 7th and 8th. The Speakers kick up a little dust with a meaningless 3-run 7th, but fall 8-4.
Greinke goes 6.1 IP for the victory. Justin Verlander (13-4) coughs up 10 hits (5 for extra bases) in one of his worst outings of the season.
Game 3 - Each team scores in the 1st. The Speakers run scores because of a Desmond error. The "shutdown inning" again eludes the Speakers as Manny Machado commits his 2nd error of the season in the 2nd to return the unearned run favor.
The Heads plate two more in the 4th. Walker triples in the midst of that scoring. The Speakers load the bases with one out in the bottom half, but Machado adds to his woes by grounding into an inning-ending double play.
John Lackey's cruising with a 4-hitter and a 4-1 lead until the 8th. Shane Victorino leads off with a single. After Yasiel Puig pops out, Carlos Gonzalez slams his 10th HR. Lackey looks to the dugout still winning 4-3, but he surrenders a ringing single to Kendrick before Manager Boyd signals for Darren O'Day. Moss greets him with a double as Kendrick holds at 3rd.
Posey hits a sac fly to center to score the tying run. Anthony Rizzo doubles in Moss with the go-ahead run and Machado redeems himself with a 2-out RBI single as insurance.
Casey Janssen retires all three Lemonheads (2 Ks) in the 9th to preserve the 6-4 win on his 6th save. O'Day faces 5 hitters, giving up 3 hits and a sac fly. He suffers the only L of the series for the Lemonheads.
The Lemonheads win the season series against the Speakers, 6-4.
Shooting Stars II at Arrogant Bastards
The Stars take 2 of 3 from the Bastards. Game 1 featured a pair of back-to-back
2-out 4-run innings by the Stars. The Bastards won game 2 on HRs by Trout,
Stanton and Gonzalez. But in game 3 the Stars get a run on a failed DP
and another 2-out hit as Trout's solo HR is the only scoring for the Bastards
in a 2-1 loss.
Bastards do take the season series 7-3.
Thursday, October 2 - Birds of Pray at Devil Dogs
Birds travel to the new Oakhurst Stadium to complete a 9-game road trip.
G-1 Birds got their 1st & only lead in the 4th on a J. Votto homer,at which point the Dogs manager could be heard yelling "I guess that's all they will need!" The Dogs then came back with 2 runs in the 5th, 6th & 7th to take a 6-2 win. R. Zimmerman got a 2-run gift homer.
G-2 The Dogs got 10 runs & 11 hits in the first 3 innings & battered the Birds 12-5. Dogs got homers from S. Perez, H. Ramirez, R. Zimmerman & B. Phillips. Birds got homers from C. Davis (#20) & J.J. Hardy.
G-3 Dogs got 3 in the 1st with R. Zimmerman's 2-run single, & C. Kershaw threw a CG 8 hit, 1 BB 5K game in the Dogs 4-2 win. J. Castro doubled & homered for the Birds.
Birds got 21 hits in the series while the Dogs got 27 in the first 2 games. The Birds were swept for the 6th time this season. Birds completed their road trip at 2-7.
Thursday, October 2 - Speakers at Devil Dogs
Game 1 - Matt Harvey strands two Devil Dogs in scoring position in the 1st and scatters three hits the rest of the way. The Speakers offense breaks a scoreless tie in the 5th on Andrelton Simmons' sac fly. Howie Kendrick, who scores that first run, knocks in Shane Victorino the following inning for a 2-0 lead.
Former Speaker, Ryan Zimmerman tosses a ball in the dirt that Mike Napoli can't dig out to start the 8th. After Manny Machado gets plunked with the bases loaded, Manager Barry calls for Grant Balfour. Anthony Rizzo greets him with a bases clearing double and a 6-0 Speakers win.
Harvey (10-3) goes the distance while James Shields takes the loss.
Game 2 - The Speakers blitz Stephen Strasburg with 4 1st inning runs on 5 hits. Bryce Harper answers in the bottom half with a 2-out RBI single. The Dogs chip away with the same MO in the 3rd: Harper stings a 2-out RBI double.
Napoli picks up on the trend with a game-tying 2-out 2-run single in the 5th. That inning is setup by back-to-back walks that Felix Hernandez (+31) fails to stop. In the 6th, Ben Zobrist follows a perfect hit-and-run single with a game-winning RBI single. Dogs win 5-4 as the Speakers fail to record a hit (and only roll 2 more) after the 1st inning.
Strasburg goes 7 for the win. Felix, this year's hard luck Speakers starter,
drops to 3-11.Koji Uehara picks up the save with a 1-2-3 9th.
Game 3 - Zobrist connects with a 2-run HR in the Dogs' 3rd. Kendrick and Rizzo lead off the 4th with back-to-back doubles to cut the lead in half.
Through the first 4 innings, the Speakers load the bases twice without scoring. Finally, with the bases juiced on 3 walks (2 by starter Michael Wacha and 1 by Tanner Scheppers) in the 7th, David Wright pokes a 2-run single in the hole for a 3-2 Speakrs lead.
Cy Young could have pitched after the stretch for the Speakers, but still would have gotten bombed. Not even the award predecessor can stop two 0s followed by two hit-and-run 34s. Zobrist adds an insurance RBI for a 5-3 Devil Dogs win, their 5th in 6 games.
The Speakers "offense" has two stretches of 8 straight batters
retired, including the final 8 of the game after Wright's 1-out single
in the 7th. Scheppers picks up a vulture W. Danny Salazar falls to 1-2.
Uehara has another 1-2-3 9th for the save.
The Speakers 2nd Period magic is quickly fading into the rolling misery that has defined this franchise over the past several seasons.
Sunday, October 12, 2014 - Speakers at The Plague
Game 1 - Howie Kendrick's 2-run HR (his 7th) breaks a 3-3 tie in the 5th. The Plague leave RISP in 5 different innings, but can't come up with a clutch hit and fall 5-3. Tommy Hunter (2-0) goes 2.1 IP of scoreless relief to pick up the win. Josh Collmenter surrenders Kendrick's homer, one of only two hits allowed, for the loss. Casey Janssen (7) records the last 3 outs with the winning run at the plate.
Game 2 - The Plague dispose of Justin Verlander after 5+ IP and roll to an easy 11-2 win. After the Speakers score a pair in the top of the 1st, The Plague answer with 3 in each of the first 2 innings. Carlos Santana's 3-run HR and Paul Goldschmit's 2-run HR put this one away early. Anibal Sanchez goes the distance scattering 9 hits.
Game 3 - Chris Archer suffers the same fate as Verlander, except he coughs up 9 ER in 2.2 IP. Omar Infante connects on a 3-run blast in the 1st (his 2nd of the series). Jouylis Chacin turns back all 4 Speakers potential HRs, but can't complete the 5th after giving up 5 meaningless runs. The Plague hold on for a non-dramatic 10-8 win. Joe Smith notches his 19th save.
The Plague easily outscore (23-15) and outhit (44-25) the hapless visitors, who are fortunate to pocket one win.
Wednesday, October 15 - Lymebees at The Plague

get 1 run back in the 6th. The Plague score 2 runs in the bottom of the

Bees record now 43-33.
Friday, October 17 - Shooting Stars II at Birds of Pray
Birds bats continue to be offensive.
G-1 Stars score 3 in the 5th, capped by a Cuddyer 2-run double. Quintana throws a CG 3-hitter in the Stars 6-1 win. Votto's solo accounts for the only Bird run.
G-2 J. Peralta's 3-run homer finished a 4-run 4th. Minor threw the Stars 2nd straight CG, a 7-hitter for their 5-1 win. The Birds scored on a groundout by Gordon in the 8th.
G-3 Stars nursed a 1-0 lead on an unearned run until the 8th, when the Birds scored 2 on RBIs by Gordon & C. Davis. Stars then hit 2 homers, (a 3-run by G. Parra & a 2-run by Pierzynski), to score 5 in the 9th for a 6-2 win.
Birds swept for the 7th time this year & 2nd consecutive series.

Birds 4 runs, 16 hits, 4 xb hits & 14 hits turned into outs.

The Bees then scored 4 in the 2nd & 5 in the 4th, enroute to a 14-1 win. Bumgarner gave up hits to the first 2 batters; then no-hit the Birds in a CG 2-hitter. Beltre 3/4 with 4 RBIs.
G-2 Bees scored 2 unearned runs in the first inning & held on for a 3-1 win. Tulo hit a solo for the Bees. The Birds scored on a Votto RBI single.
G-3 Beltre hit his 2nd 2-run first inning homer and Tulo hit a 3-run homer as the Bees pounded out a 9-3 win. Beltre again 3/4 with 4 RBIs. The Birds got homers from Votto (solo) & a 2-run Davis homer (#21).
Birds get swept for the 3rd consecutive series, scoring 9 runs in their last 6 games.
Bees: 26 runs, 20 walks & 12 xb hits.
Birds: 5 runs, 7 walks & 4 xb hits.
Sunday, November 2 - Asian Tsunamis at Speakers
Game 1 - Will the Speakers 3rd Period woes continue or can they get back on track facing the Tsunamis in the final Asian series of the season? Felix Hernandez takes the hill and promptly surrenders a double off the top of the wall to Miguel Cabrera. Starling Marte triples him home and Jose Bautista strokes a sac fly to right for a quick 2-0 lead.
Four consecutive hits start the top of the 3rd, including another Cabrera 2-base hit off the top of the wall, Ben Revere's RBI double, Marte's single and a Bautista Baltimore Special. King Felix records 6 outs and trails 6-0!
RBI singles by Brandon Moss and Howie Kendrick in the bottom half cut the lead to 6-2. Carlos Gonzalez (11) connects on a 3-run HR off Tyler Chatwood in the bottom of the 4th. David Wright (5) goes back-to-back to knot the score at 6-6.
With both starters long gone, Jed Lowrie's 2-out RBI double plates Bautista to put the Tsunamis back on top in the 7th. Kendrick's RBI groundout in the 8th scores Gonzalez to re-tie at 7-7.
Marte's 2-out RBI double in the 11th scores Cabrera for the final run of the game. The Speakers strand Kendrick as the tying run at 2nd and fall 8-7 in 11 innings.
W - Antonio Bastardo, L - Trevor Rosenthal (1-2), S - Jean Machi
Game 2 - The Tsunamis' modest 2-game winning streak follows Hector Santiago to the mound against Jordan Zimmermann. Santiago plunks Yasiel Puig with 2-away in the 3rd. Wright's clutch RBI double gives the Speakers their first lead of the series.
A pair of singles and walk (that Zim can't turn back) loads the bases with no outs for the Tsunamis in the 4th. However, Didi Gregorius grounds into a 5-2-3 DP and Lowrie grounds out to short to throttle the threat.
After Revere leads off the 6th with a single, Marte and Bautista both fly to right. Gregorius grounds to 2nd, where Anthony Rendon bobbles the ball. Revere scoots to 3rd and scores on Lowrie's hit-and-run RBI single. The unearned run ties these two teams yet again, 1-1.
Wright leads off the bottom half with a double in the gap. Rendon whiffs, but Yoenis Cespedes unloads. His 4th HR of the season puts the Speakers up, 3-1.
Zimmermann completes a 1-2-3 shutdown 7th, yet faces the tying run twice in the 8th. He strikes out Bautista and gets Gregorius to pop up to stifle another Tsunamis rally.
Wright (3-4, 2-D, RBI, 2-R) singles to start the bottom of the 8th. Lowrie boots a ball to 2nd to return Rendon's favor. Cespedes again goes deep to give Zimmermann a 6-1 cushion and final score.
Each team finishes with only 6 hits, but Cespedes plates 5 runs on 2 swings.
W - Zimmermann (7-6), L - Santiago
Game 3 - Kris Medlen starts Game 100 for the Asian Tsunamis while Matt Harvey toes the rubber for the Speakers. Both teams threaten early, but do not score.
Fast-forward to the 6th when Revere and Marte collect singles with 1-out. Harvey whiffs Cabrera, but Bautista doubles in a pair with 2-away to shatter the scoreless tie.
CarGo bangs a solo shot, his 12th long ball, to cut the lead in half, 2-1 after 6. While Harvey retires the next dozen Tsunamis consecutively, the Speakers waste a 7th inning rally.
Puig starts the bottom of the 9th with a ringing single. Moss Ks and Kendrick grounds to short, moving Puig into scoring position. With 1-out remaining, Manny Machado responds with an RBI single for another tie at 2-2.
Rosenthal retires Revere with 2-on and 2-out in the 10th. Andrelton Simmons gets his 2nd hit of the day to start the bottom half. Ryan Hanigan fails to sacrifice for the 2nd time in the game and strikes out. During that AB, Simmons steals his 1st base of the season. At the top of the order, Shane Victorino laces a double that rolls to the wall, easily scoring Simmons with the winning run, 3-2.
W - Rosenthal (2-2), L - Medlen

Lymebees record at 48-34.
Wednesday, November 5, 2014 - Speakers at Birds of Pray
Game 1 - The first two Speakers reach as Shane Victorino and Howie Kendrick single. With runners at the corners, Yasiel Puig whiffs and David Wright grounds into a 3-6-3 DP. [Take note, because this will develop into "Groundhog Day".]
In the bottom half, Jose Altuve collects a leadoff walk and steals 2nd. With two away, Chris Davis doubles off the top of the right field wall for a 1-0 Birds lead.
Top 3: Victorino walks with one out. Kendrick singles him to 3rd. Puig grounds into a 4-6-3 DP. [Sound familiar?] Bottom 3: Altuve singles and scores on Martin Prado's hit-and-run double.
With one away in the top of the 6th, Kendrick notches his third single of the game. Puig (33-0) singles and Wright singles home Kendrick. With 1st & 3rd, one out and the tying run at 3rd, Buster "No Longer Hearts Buster" Posey grounds sharply 4-6-3. [Getting ridiculous now.]
2-1 to the 9th when Posey coaxes a leadoff walk. Josh Rutledge pinch-runs and swipes 2nd. Pinch-hitter Brandon Moss is intentionally passed by new Birds' closer, JJ Hoover. Carlos Gonzalez gets brushed by Hoover's next delivery to load the bases with no outs.
Exit Hoover; enter Ryan Webb, who strikes out pinch-hitter Jason Heyward. Andrelton Simmons flies deep enough to center to plate Rutledge, but Webb gets Victorino on an easy fly to center to preserve a tie. Recap: bases loaded, no outs, 1 run scored, no hits.
In the 12th, Simmons finally collects the Speakers first hit since the 6th inning! His harmless 1-out single off Zach Britton goes nowhere as he's stranded on 1st by the top of the order.
Chase Headley begins the bottom half by roping the Birds' 6th double of the game. Altuve's perfect bunt moves the winning run to 3rd. Daniel Nava lifts a fly to left. Gonzalez sets himself and barely reaches the infield as Headley scores the game-winner, 3-2 in 12!
W - Britton (being groomed as the Birds' 2015 closer), L - Paco Rodriguez (1-2) (Paco has surrendered 3 runs this season and cost his team 2 games)
Game 2 - After the Birds' staff holds the Speakers to one single in the last 7 IP, Victorino and Puig lead off the game with back-to-back doubles and a quick 1-0 advantage. 3 Speaker singles start the 3rd. With the bases juiced, Gonzalez grounds into a 6-4-3 DP. [About to set fire to APBA dice.] 3 consecutive errors (JJ Hardy, Joey Votto, Nava) follow as the Speakers score 4 times without an RBI.
The bottom of the 3rd allows Birds' fans their only cheers of the game as Nava takes Jordan Zimmermann deep. 5-1 is as close as the Birds of Pray would get in this 14-1 final.
Brian Matusz comes on to record the final 3 outs, but it takes him 8 batters to do so, including Moss's 22nd HR. The Birds finish with 4 hits and 6 errors.
W - Zimmermann (8-6) CG, L - Bartolo Colon
Game 3 - The Speakers break through in the 2nd on consecutive singles by Moss, Posey and Manny Machado. With 1st & 3rd and no outs, Anthony Rizzo grounds into a 5-4 FC with Posey holding. Simmons pops to 1st and Victorino Ks to extinguish yet another promising inning. [Really?]
Votto takes Justin Verlander for a ride to start the bottom of the 5th for a tight 1-1 tie. With 2 away, Nick Markakis strokes a long drive to right that Puig brings back into play for a double. Altuve pops to Kendrick to end the inning.
It's a new ballgame until Gonzalez leads off the very next half inning with a solo of his own (11-1) off Julio Teheran. CarGo now has 13 HRs this season.
Back to the recurring "Groundhog Day" theme: Rizzo doubles to start the 7th. Simmons grounds to the right side to move him to 3rd. Victorino lines into a 4-5 DP! [Note to self: use sledgehammer to pulverize APBA dice.]
Jordan Schafer singles with 2 away in the bottom of the 8th. Manager Williams calls for Yordano Medina to replace Verlander (7.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB) with the go-ahead run at the plate. Schafer steals 2nd, but Medina strikes out Melky Cabrera to end the threat.
Moss (3-4) tallies his 3rd single of the game to start the Speakers' 9th. With Rutledge pinch running, Posey hits a gapper to score an important insurance run, 3-1. Machado moves pinch runner Heyward to 3rd with 1 out, just so Rizzo can whiff and Simmons can pop up. [I need to be reminded of inept dice rolling this many times in a single series?]
Medina faces the heart of the Birds' order in the bottom of the 9th. He strikes out Davis, gets McCann on a lazy fly to left, and strikes out Votto to preserve another win for Verlander, 3-1.
W - Verlander (14-5), L - Teheran (9th consecutive loss), S - Medina
Sunday, November 9 - Shooting Stars II at Lymebees

an error, which leads to a 5-run inning capped off by a Longoria 3-run
bomb. Stanton added a 2-run bomb. Scherzer gets 3-plus innings of relief
to secure his 12th win.
Game 2 in a battle of two 25-graded starters the Bastards get a solo HR from Wilin Rosario as Cosart goes the distance for a 2-hit shutout. He ends his season 6-0.
Game 3 would be decided in the 1st inning as Gonzalez gets a 2-out single for the Bastards followed by a 22-0 for Howard, who proceeds to get a 2nd column single. ABs didn't score. Hanley belts a 2-run HR off of Shelby Miller. AB's cut it to 3-1 on a solo by Gardner, but the Dogs BP slams the door. Nova got the win.
Bastards now host the Lemonheads with the winner playing the top-seeded Lymbees. And the Devil Dogs host the Speakers in a clash of former multi-champions.
Best of luck to the other 4 playoff teams.
