- A great note from Howard about Fur Peace Ranch: (2005-09-02)
I spent last weekend at Fur Peace Ranch, Jorma Kaukonen's guitar camp in
southeast Ohio. What a fantastic place. It's not just getting intimate
guitar lessons and wisdom from great players (I was in Jorma's
class--wow!), but it's just a wonderful atmosphere, a real cool community
where complete strangers become friends, bonded by music, no matter what
the skill level, background, whatever. The staff is warm and welcoming,
food was fantastic, and I can't say enough about Jorma, I think he's about
the coolest guy on the planet. I'd recommend it to anybody interested in a
guitar vacation.
One of the players there was a young guy named Paul Curreri. Paul's guitar
playing is based in traditional styles, but he takes it in highly
individualized direction, and his lyrics were great. Paul's going to be
playing at the Tin Angel in Philly on 9/30 with Josh Joplin and again on
12/7 with Kelly Joe Phelps. Anyone who sees him will be a fan!
- Some good things from Patty: (2005-09-02)
I was recently introduced to the music of Michael Jonathan and was wondering if you've ever heard of him?
He's a folk singer/songwriter from KY and runs a weekly radio show, "The Woodsongs Radio Hour".
It's a pretty neat project he has going there and I'll give you the link if you'd like to check it out.
You may be well familiar with some of the guests he's had on his shows (of course, Tommy E!).
Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour
I've read two of Michael's books and have purchased a number of his CDs and I think he's a decent guy
with some good talent that he seems all to willing to share this with anyone who would listen... :-)
If nothing else, just check out some of his internet videos from his radio broadcast show.
He always opens with one of his own songs, so, you can get a flavor for his style.
Here is the woodsongs link to the video clips - Tommy Emmanuel is #245 and #349

Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop has just released "Chet Atkins in Three Dimensions: 50 Years
of Legendary Guitar, Volume 1". This terrific 208 page book contains interviews with Chet's family
and friends, rare color photos, and plenty of music in both notation and tab. For complete details, click here:

"They have had Ernie Hawkins and Tommy on their shows!
Show number 247 is a live show with Ernie, and show number 245 with Tommy Emmanuel.
Both have video and audio and are great. At the end of Tommy's show he plays a version of "Amazing Grace"
that had me playing nothing else for a week. A final surprise is show number 240, an audio show with
my friend Kieran Kane, who along with his brother Richard, taught me to play fingerstyle
when they were both high school kids. I went to college with their older brother Pat, also a guitar player.
We've all been friends for over 40 years."
