Welcome to the Bumping River

Much like its counterpart the American River, the Bumping River offers quite a few good spots right along the river or near Bumping Lake. It is located just outside of Mount Rainier National Park in the south central Cascades.
One main road runs along the river all the way to the dam. There are several unpaved roads that extend past the lake providing mountain biking opportunities. In addition, Fife's Ridge and Little Bald Mountain are two good epic rides. If hiking is preferred to riding, The American Ridge Trail and Fife's Peak can fulfill those needs.
The river itself has plenty of access spots, either from the campsite or very nearby. This tributary to the Yakima, the river contains salmon and steelhead as well as trout. It's a short drive to the American or Little Naches rivers in case the Bumping is not producing. Bumping Lake holds trout and Kokanee salmon with fairly generous limits (check the regulations). Boats can be rented at the marina.
Bumping River is just one in a long line of quality camping locations in this area of the state. It's a great place to spend a few days.
