Welcome to the First Consignment Art Dealer Who Doesn't Charge Artists a DIME!

I'm Lisa Owens of Puyallup, Washington (that's "pew WALLOP"!). I opened RavenscroftArt on February 16, 2005, to offer everybody a chance to own unique, affordable pieces of art, and to give emerging artists a place to sell their work to the world at no cost to them!

My first listings included incredibly gorgeous handcrafted beaded jewelry and cool pictures for home and office decor, and have now expanded into handbeaded home decor, unique abstract paintings, photography, art nudes, drawings and prints.

All of my listings are personally chosen for their quality and beauty. All artwork on my site is original so each piece is completely unique! I specialize in the unique, you see; most common handicrafts won't be included in my listings unless they're really unusual.

How is it FREE for the Artist??

I believe that talented artists shouldn't have to spend big bucks to get their work known. I also believe they shouldn't have to pay someone a huge commission to sell their pieces.

It just doesn't seem fair, somehow. Artists should create, not spend time and money selling those creations.

So when an artist wants me to sell a piece and I agree, s/he sets a reasonable price s/he wants to get. I list it at auction for that price plus a nominal percentage to cover fees. If the piece sells, the artist gets the full amount of the asking price. Either way, the artist pays NOTHING if the piece doesn't sell!

I have discovered that philanthropy costs a lot more money than I realized! From March 21, 2005 when I opened my eBay store through May 30, 2005, I have spent $767.88 on eBay fees alone, with total sales of $153.98. Trying to sell art ain't cheap!

So I now offer non-art related items to help cover the costs of fees for art items that don't sell. My community has responded to my requests by donating things for me to sell.

Now you, too, can contribute to my efforts if you wish. I wish I could say your contributions are tax-deductible, but I'm not a registered charity. Just someone trying to do something good for the art community. If you choose to donate, thank you. Unless you tell me not to, your first name and state (or country) will be placed on my "Supporters of Pacific Northwest Artists" list below.

Would you help me? And get published by doing it? I'm writing a book and I'd love to include your contributions. It's tentatively called "Metaphors for Depression and the Bipolar Disorders: Understanding Your Loved One's Condition," by Lisa L. Owens and Mark O'Neill. I'm looking for contributions from people who suffer from Depression, Bipolar I or Bipolar II. Your contributions are welcome even if you haven't been formally diagnosed with one of these mood disorders. There is too much misunderstanding about mental illness, especially depression and the bipolar disorders. People hear "mental illness" and too many of them think you're either a freak or insane. And other people, like my own father, think that depression is just "the blues" and mania is just "hyperactivity." My father spent a couple of years telling me to snap out of it, that I was just lazy, that my illness was a character flaw that I could overcome with effort. It didn't matter what I told him, or gave him to read - I finally had to move across the country to get away from his constant harping. Fortunately my Dad has come around; a conversation with one of my cousins, who also suffers from depression, finally convinced him of what the Americans with Disabilities Act already knows: Depression and the Bipolars are debilitating mood disorders, not character flaws. They're caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Now I want to write a book to help people understand exactly how these disorders affect the ones they love. Mothers Against Boomerangs!

A Very Strange Site About Angels

According to the site owner, "Angels manifest by means of transcendental ideomotor effect and automatic drawing." The author contends that you can sit down with a pen and paper, open your mind, and angels will appear in your drawings. Interesting and strange.
