WOOL FOR SALE

Updated March 27, 2002

As you can see in the picture below, we have a variety of breeds at Rainbow Farm. They're all wool sheep (as opposed to the coarser wooled meat sheep) but their fleeces have different spinning qualities, colors and textures. Our primary breed is the Jacob, a two-tone sheep with wool that spins very easily. Phebe has been experimenting with crossing various breeds to see what types of wool they can produce. We have Rambouillet, Clun Forest, English Leicester, Border Leicester, and Black Welsh Mountain pure bred sheep and various crosses between these different breeds.

We have three items for sale on eBay at the moment, balls of commercially prepared roving, made from soft, fine Rambouillet or Rambouillet-cross wool from our Rainbow Farm flock. Phebe sent a lot of wool out to the mill for processing last year. She's spun some into lovely, puffy 2-ply yarn to make a summer blouse, but has a lot more roving than she can spin. Each ball makes a lot of yardage because it is very fine wool. You can spin any ply count or thickness you prefer. 2. Spring Green Roving
  3. Spring Green Variegated Roving

As we begin shearing in mid-April, we'll be posting the new fleeces here for sale as they become available, so please check back from time to time.
