REFLECTORS

The logos on the top of our home page are patterned after the geometric rainbow sign post at the end of our drive. Ever since we put it up a few years ago, we've wanted to put some reflectors on it so that people could find us at night. That wasn't as easy as it sounds, because Paul insisted that we have reflectors of all six colors of the rainbow. We tried local home repair stores and searched the web for reflector companies, but no one makes purple reflectors.

Ray at The Reflectory wrote back to suggest that we use self-stick reflectorized sheets. He had all the colors except purple but cleverly suggested coating a white reflector sheet with something purple to get the effect we wanted. We used a translucent purple nail polish.

As you can see in the picture, this worked very well. A nice effect we hadn't planned on is that the "hot" colors (red, orange and yellow) catch the headlights first then the "cold" colors fade into view. This gives the impression of a moving sign, with the triangles pointing down the drive, towards the house.
