The book sale netted $667 in four hours. Thanks to all who donated books. Jane Cleveland spent several hours before the sale helping me get books out of boxes and onto tables, taking trash to the dump, and moving more tables from the library to the church. She has been a great friend to me and the library in my short time there.

I would also like to thank Junior Sanderson, who was instrumental in my answering a reference question about a former Reading resident.

Lisa Kaija wants to help get a children's story hour started later this summer. We would enjoy having a group of people available for reading on a sometime basis: a real community effort and a way to get to know the kids in town. If anyone has an idea or wants to read, come by the library or call me at 484-5588. Thanks.

I have finished a week-long workshop in library administration. You may know that librarians in Vermont can take workshops for credit. Once a librarian has 150 credit hours, he or she is certified by the state. I will be taking other workshops and hope to get certification in the next year or two. I am grateful to Walter Mendoza and Lisa Kaija for filling in at the desk while I was away. VALS (Vermont Automated Library System) is now formatted on the library's computer. It is a free service offered by the Department of Libraries. There is an e-mailing system that enables me to reach all participating schools and libraries in the state at once. I will soon be doing interlibrary loans with VALS, which will save time and postage (taxpayer dollars).

Library hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to seven--closed from three-thirty to four--and Saturdays from ten to noon. For those of you who cannot get to the library, or into the library, I will be happy to bring books to your home.

Cordially,
Tony
