February 2004 The dates for the book-discussion series are Feb. 4, Feb. 18, March 3, March 17, and March 31. The meetings are being held at the library from 7 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. The books being discussed are Growing Up, by Russell Baker; The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint, by Brady Udall; The Book Shop, by Penelope Fitzgerald; An American Childhood, by Annie Dillard; and Disgrace, by J.M. Coetzee. If interested, you may pick up copies of the books at the library. All are welcome to join in at any time during the series. Call 484-5588 for more information. The library now has expanded hours on Saturdays. Several patrons had suggested that we open for a couple of hours on weekend afternoons. New hours are 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Library hours will remain the same on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Recent acquisitions for adults include A Benjamin Franklin Reader; The King Arthur Flour Baker's Companion; Bernard Clayton's New Complete Book of Breads; Master and Commander, by Patrick O'Brian; A Garden in the Rain (romance fiction), by Lynn Kurland; and Scientific American's Ask the Experts. Many more books are coming for both adults and children. I will keep you abreast of new titles as they become available. Thanks to the Reading Greenhouse and Garden Center for the Christmas wreath I found hanging on the library door. And special thanks to Junior Sanderson and Tim Bishop for their indispensable help during an excavation project.
