January 2003 Reading Public Library will be hosting a book-discussion series. All are welcome. The meetings will be held from 7 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. on the dates listed below. The library will provide a limited number of copies of each book. Unfortunately, the schedule was not in place in time for me to publicize the series in last month's column, but the second book will be available at the library on January 16. Call 484-5588 for more information.
Wed., Jan.15: Evening, by Susan Minot I want to thank Scott Harkins from the Reading Greenhouse & Garden Center for the gorgeous wreath he provided for the library door. The support of the community is a delight and is much appreciated by the trustees and me. Some recent acquisitions: I Hate to See That Evening Sun Go Down, by William Gay; The Prone Gunman, by Jean-Patrick Manchette; Child of My Heart, by Alice McDermott; I Don't Know How She Does It, by Allison Pearson; The Little Friend, by Donna Tartt; and On Being Ill, by Virginia Woolf. Library hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 7 P.M. (closed 3:30 P.M. to 4 P.M.) and Saturdays from 10 A.M. to noon.
