Openshelves
July 2001 I will begin by introducing myself. My name is Tony Pikramenos. I live in Brownsville with my wife, Heather, and my dog, Franny. My wife and I are hoping to have a child in a year or so. I am thirty-six. I am from the Midwest but have dreamed all my life of living in Vermont. To be given the opportunity to work in a small library in a community like this is more than I hoped for. I want to thank the Board of Trustees for the chance. In the few weeks I have been here, many of you have approached me with encouragement and good will. Thank you. I hope I can repay you by providing library service you can depend on. Thanks especially to Angela Bemis, who worked at the library for five years. She and her husband moved soon after I started, but she was a big help my first couple of days. Thanks also to two former librarians, Tina Miller and Debbie McCosker, who have each offered their services, should I need them. Now a bit of news. We have just received a selection of large-print books to circulate. They will be available until the end of August, when we will get another batch. This is a free service provided by the Vermont Department of Libraries. There appear to be several books unaccounted for from the last reading group. If anyone has a copy of Tall Trees, Nature of Vermont, Green Mountain Farm, or Ethan Allen, please return it to the library so that I can get all the books returned to Vermont Center for the Book. Thanks. The Children's Literacy Foundation (CLiF) presented Reading Public Library with about seventy-five new children's books, which have all been processed and are ready to be checked out. Thanks to Duncan McDougall, the executive director of CLiF, who made the presentation, and a special thanks to Dan and Barbara Lynch of Lyme, NH, who gave six hundred dollars. Reading raised three hundred dollars at the bake sale last year. With the discount CLiF was able to obtain, we got twelve hundred dollar's worth of books. Library hours will remain Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to seven and Saturdays from ten to noon. Each Tuesday and Thursday I will be taking a break from three-thirty to four. The library will be closed during that time. Last, I want to remind you that we can get materials from other libraries for you through interlibrary loan. And if you have a question--any question--give me a call or stop in. I will do my best to help you find an answer.
Cordially,
