Openshelves
November 2001 A couple of things relating to last month's article. Jane Cleveland--who has been an invaluable friend to the library the past weeks--and I made some calls and sent out a few postcards in an attempt to get some overdue books back into the library. Some people returned books--thank you--other people said that books we were asking about had been returned. After some digging, we did find some on the shelves. Apparently, there had been some duplicate cards made over the years; additionally, a few cards in the overdue file had not found their way back into the books that were returned to the library. We immediately stopped making calls and set about reorganizing the books and getting rid of any duplicate cards. We then looked again for every book in the overdue file. The children's room has been searched, and I am beginning the same process upstairs. I hope to be done with the entire library in the next week or so. Our preschool story-hour group has met six times as of this writing. It has been a joy. Lisa Kaija has led most meetings. Tina Miller also led one week. The children are all beautiful, and it has been a real pleasure presenting the program. Our last meeting will be Thursday, November 15. We will then take a break until spring. Last, I want to mention again that I can get any book, video, magazine article, or record for you whether or not the library carries it. This can be done through interlibrary loan, and I have had great success so far. I can usually get the material within a week or two, and you can check it out for up to a month in most cases. As long as it's in a library somewhere, it's available to you. Let me know. I'd love to help.
