Dear __________,
For your information, we are sending you a copy of our objection to the inadequate response of the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) to a simple Freedom of Information Act request. This is a summary of the details provided in the letter below.
We asked for the addresses of the 87 residences threatened with destruction by the Intercounty Connector (ICC), because SHA has never provided and has refused to provide that information. Our family home is one of those threatened residences. The stakes are high, and we want as many informed citizens as possible providing public comment during the unduly short public comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the ICC.
The fact that the SHA delayed rather than expedited our request, and provided inadequate information, is yet another of many legitimate reasons to extend the comment period on the 8,484 pages of the DEIS and its technical reports. We join with the several dozen community organizations who have requested extension of the comment period to June 3rd, for a total comment period of 180 days after the agencies posted some of the technical reports on the Web. This extension is even more necessary given the fact that the SHA posted a corrupt, unreadable copy of the Socioeconomic and Land Use Technical Report (511 pages) on the agency’s official ICC web site for nearly two months.
Sincerely,
Eve Burton
