Notes From the Principal's Office:

●  DAILY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE WILL ENSURE SUCCESS: Billy woke up late, should I (the parent) send him to school?  The answer is "YES".  A study from the Journal of Educational Research found that attendance makes a big difference.  Kids who are in school every day do better than those who aren't.  But what can YOU do to make the mornings easier?  How can you get your child up and out the door, on time, every day?  Here are some tips:

Summer Reading Requirements

K-4 will receive a reading log to record the books that they read (or listen to) over the summer.  The log will be returned to their new teacher on the first day of school in September.  The students will receive a Summer Reading grade on their first report card.

Here are the minimum requirements needed to receive an "S" for Summer Reading:

Summer Reading is an important component of education.  Many children forget skills they've learned throughout the school year during the summer.  Summer reading is a good way to reinforce skills.  Additionally, the Summer Reading prepares the children for the new year by reading age appropriate books written by suggested authors on the back of the log.

Happy Reading!

Playground Update

Recently Maureen Fumicello and Mary Gayle, Reeves School PTO Reps, met with Jay Corey, City Engineer, Joe Elia, School Administration, and City Aldermen on the playground status.

There are still a few details to work out but we are almost there.  The project is going out to bed (search for contractors) on May 15th with final selections by May 20th.  The last day of school is Thursday June 19th.  Work on the playground area and school grounds will begin on Monday June 23rd.  As part of the meetings during the past months, the playground committee selected a new playground company.  The new company is called Game Time.  They have a good reputation and have installed equipment at several Boston city schools.  The new play structure will accommodate up to 120 students..  The cost of the equipment the PTO will have to fund is $35,000 and the city will be helping with the installation.

The fine details are being worked out but the new plans include a fenced in play area, grass area and basketball courts.  The small playground equipment in from of the school that is used by the kindergarten and first grade students will be moved to the newly designated playground area.  The area will be landscaped, including trees for much needed shade on hot school days.  The playground will be located just outside the school cafeteria and should be ready to be used the first day of school in September.  Great news!

After School Program A Hit!

The After School Program is a big hit with kids and parents.

Stop by and you will see any number of children playing games in the gym or trying out a new craft in the cafeteria, or playing a board game, or enjoying time outside.  The gym games strive to meet every interest of the students with games like Capture the Flag, Wiffle Ball, Bean Bag Toss, Wonder Ball, Basketball, Soccer, Dodge Ball, Relay Races, Wall Ball, Freeze Tag and even Hip-Hop dancing!  "The crafts are great this year!" exclaimed one student.  Some of the crafts items made in September were origami frogs, flowerpots, nature prints, and bookmarks!

This year's staff includes: Kathy Fumicello, Bernadette Donaghey, Lauren Dodge, Annmarie Fumicello, Kaci Carli, Caterina Tenaglia, Laura Larsen, Gerry Urr, Julie White and William Grover.

One Mom wrote, "Thanks so much. . . the kids enjoy the programs very much!  I'm very happy too!  Keep up the good work."

The Program is for Grades K-5.  The Before School Program operates 7:00- a.m. to 8:15 a.m.  The After School Program is available 2:40 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Monday thru Friday.  Please contact Kathy Fumicello 781-937-8240 ext 312 for more information.
