Reflections of Friendship: Gentle Words in Haiku

Come and join us on a haiku adventure into the past and in the present. Our website is based on our book, Reflections of Friendship: Gentle Words in Haiku, and in it you will find haiku poems from the ancients that inspired our book, along with present-day haiku that we have written.

Our website name reflects the three people responsible for the book:

Atinobi: (Bonita/Bonnie App) Cover Designer and Graphic Artist for the book and all the sidelines relating to the book. Bonnie lives in North Olmsted, Ohio. She is a graphic artist, desk-top publisher and an active member of the League of Women Voters.

Nasus: Susan Chapman, co-author of the book. Susan lives in Macon, Georgia. Among her many activities, Susan enjoys reading, writing, travelling, and working on various committees for St. Paul's Church in Macon, Georgia.

Iduji: Judi Hays, co-author of the book. Judi lives in Woodstock, Maryland. Among her many activities, Judi enjoys reading, writing, travelling, and playing piano.

We - Nasus (Susan) and Iduji (Judi) - unknowingly started working on Reflections of Friendship in June of 2002, when Susan introduced Judi to The Tale of Murasaki, by Liza Dalby. We read the book at the same time, so that we could discuss it with one another in our emails. The story of Murasaki, a Japanese poet and author living in 11th century Japan, inspired us to write our own haiku, since woven throughout the book were haiku poems written and sent by Murasaki and her friends.

Reflections of Friendship is a collection of the ordinary moments of our lives (from July of 2002 to July of 2003) transformed into the poetry of haiku. Atinobi (Bonita/Bonnie) joined us in Macon, Georgia, during the summer of 2003, and it was at that time that ANI was created. We hope you enjoy our "contemporary" haiku, written with respect to and in the spirit of the ancient poets.
