Vile is a vi workalike by Paul Fox, Tom Dickey, and Kevin Buettner.  It combines some very useful features of emacs--such as the ability to edit multiple files simultaneously (multiple buffers) and to display multiple panes in either a tty or OS window (MS Windows or X Window)--while retaining the command syntax of vi.  If you've already learned vi, you may find it easier to learn just a few more key sequences in vile to access these features than it would be to learn emacs.
Vile has been ported to a large number of platforms.
