Dr. Irmak Renda-Tanali, located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, is a consultant and researcher specializing in the fields of emergency management and homeland security. Dr. Renda-Tanali has served clients in both the public and private sectors.
Since 1998, Dr. Renda-Tanali conducted risk assessment studies, prepared emergency operation plans and conducted post event assessment studies for many government and private sector clients.
Dr. Irmak Renda-Tanali’s experience ranges from civil engineer, to researcher, consultant, and educator. She was the head of her own engineering design consulting company for several years, later she obtained her doctorate in engineering management with a focus on crisis, disaster, and risk management. During her doctoral studies, as a graduate research associate at The George Washington University’s Institute for Crisis, Disaster, and Risk Management, she conducted a variety of sponsored research projects. Since then she continues to research, consult, teach, and publish in the areas of emergency management and homeland security. Currently she is the Program Director for Homeland Security Management studies at the University of Maryland University College’s Graduate School of Management and Technology.
Dr. Renda-Tanali is an Editor of The Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management an electronic journal since its creation in 2003. JHSEM is an independent peer-reviewed publication and is the most well-respected in the field.
